Wow! It's crazy they haven't gotten back to you yet. I couldn't believe they reviewed mine and Kelkel's (and others) applications so quickly. I agree with Kelkel that no news is good news. PM me if you'd like to

We have, potentially, a little less than two months of waiting left. Ugh!

I need a jump to conclusions mat. But seriously ya'll- it will be okay! It sounds like you've got a great partner and support system AFB and that's more than most people can say. Pugsley and Twist of Fate are right- this process has no reflection on who we are as scholars or professionals. It is, at best, a crapshoot. The nice thing about this discipline is that there is always room to grow and improve. And if you have to- try, try again. I did.

I just am not sure if Rutgers is done or not- if so, then I know where I stand for now. If not, I really hope they decide to inform the rest of their admits before 5pm today! But as Goldie and one other person got a notification from her POI, it seems like all official offers aren't out yet. But all those admitted were (or were supposed to be) informed on the 15th. Ugh.....!

I'm still hanging on to my SUNY offer for dear life! So happy to have it, so at least I know I'm going somewhere in the Fall (the funding package they put together was really quite amazing too!).
-
Sandy, you still have SO many schools left to hear back from yet. You're definitely still in this game. Don't stress out. Perhaps the toughest part is not knowing where we will live next year, but it's all apart of this game we are forced to play as academics. Sit tight! And the last thing you should do is be depressed. There are worse things than not getting into grad school- but as I said you've still got time. Good luck, dear.

I think it likely varies from program to program. I was told that I still had a good shot at being accepted off the wait list at my dream program. I wouldn't give up hope until/if you get that final rejection notice in April. Good luck!
-
But it still is weird that some were notified via DGS while others were notified via their POI. Too odd. This lack of consistency is giving me false hope that I probably shouldn't have :\
-
Congrats Goldie! I knew that at least one of us non-Americanists had to have been accepted to the program. And with a fellowship? Incredible! Serious congrats to you. It is a little disconcerting if he tried to send the e-mail on Weds. though and it didn't go through. The game might be up for the rest of us :\
-
I wonder how many people have ever said that they have "Just declined Princeton's offer!" I think you're a member of the 1% Safferz- tehehe. Congrats again on getting into the program you really wanted to get into and getting a lot of other amazing offers!

I'm sorry to the person who received notification about their Vanderbilt rejection. How did you find out? I don't see anything on the website yet, and was just wondering when I should anticipate receiving my fate. Feel free to PM me if that would be easiest.

Oh, great. Now we get to wait on Rutgers and Vandy for the next couple of days. These are my last two programs to hear from, so it is pretty incredible that I could be completely done hearing back from my programs by tomorrow. I've thrown in the towel with Vandy already, but I'm still interested in seeing the outcome. I'm seriously considering calling Rutgers to see if all their decisions are out, but I won't. No movement on this board today like I thought there might be. Looks like we're in the same boat, cooperstreet. Good luck! AND now there's a wait list. Congrats to those Vandy applicants who have gotten news already!

My Dad would always tell me to wait until the fat lady sings (which was usually followed by him or my Mom immediately breaking into song, lol). I will still try to follow his advice Thanks for the reassurance WendyDarling!
-
Congrats WendyDarling! I don't think we're out of the game yet, Goldie. There are so many non-Americanists that frequent this forum that I would think that at least ONE of us would be accepted (RIGHT?!). That latest Rutgers accept makes me think that there are still official offers that will be sent out over the next couple of days. I will give up on Rutgers after Friday. But lets keep hope until then!
-
Congrats on the admit dragonfly! I think someone else posted an unofficial acceptance after you did. That's what the rest of us folks still waiting are pinning our hopes on- if there are students still waiting to get their official notifications, then the hope isn't lost yet. I'm also thinking that they've just notified Americanists so far. If I don't hear anything by Friday I'm throwing in the towel, until then- I need to learn to check my e-mail less than 100x per day- tehehe.
-
For Rutgers people- Perhaps I'm over analyzing this a bit (but hey! we're historians. that's what we do), but the last posted acceptance on the results board makes it seem as if they are not yet finished with sending out official notifications. If that person was contacted by their POI and is still waiting to get their official letter from the DGS, then there is still hope for us, no? I've been obsessively checking my e-mail all day! So glad this is one of my last programs to hear from. Best of luck to the rest of the Rutgers hopefuls!
-
Goodness, I hope so! Maybe they admitting by subfield first. It would make me feel a lot better if so.
-
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you on your top choice. Your record has been absolutely incredible this cycle. I just wish that I was wait listed at any of the schools you've been accepted to, lol!
-
Thanks for doing that Safferz- It is really kind of you to do that so early in the process, especially if you're certain you're not attending. It gets the process moving and allows you to focus your attention to the programs you're really considering. Now you've opened up 2 spots at top programs for others. As a wait lister- I salute you, ma'am.

Wait listing is NOT the end!

I agree with you, and you said it very well. I would never encourage anyone to outright accept an offer this early in the game, even if it is from a school that you believe is your top choice. It doesn't mean that if you have offers from schools you have no intention of attending that you can't reject those offers quickly (that is to say, if you've already got other offers from programs you are strongly considering). I have friends who have already been accepted to four or more programs, and they still have many schools left to hear from. I see no reason why they couldn't reject offers from the schools they consider to be their backup programs quickly, especially if they have no intention of attending. Most schools notify by early March (at least) and most prospective students weekends are not long after. Taking all that into consideration, most people should be able to make an educated decision by at least the last week in March and first week in April. There will be those stuck waiting (like me!), inevitably holding offers until they get the final word about their position on the wait list. If I get two offers of admission (in addition to the wait list), I will reject the program I know I don't want to attend so the process can get moving. But that's just my personal opinion- I'm not saying it's for everyone. But you have to admit, April 14th is really fairly late in the game, and April 19th?! Even more so. How do they expect you to accept an offer after the deadline has passed? It must've felt like a sense of redemption to give them that "as if!" response, readingredhead. I certainly don't mind waiting, but it is a frustrating process nevertheless. Academics are notoriously slow at making decisions, and in this case- I think it is more than justifiable to take the time needed to make the appropriate decision. -

Wow- April 14th?! It's crazy how so many people wait until the very last minute to make decisions. I know if I get accepted to this program, I will immediately notify my other schools and bow out quickly. I will definitely take your advice and contact the POI if I don't get in off the wait list. Thanks so much for your help! You've given me hope -

How long did you have to wait before you heard that you were taken off the waiting list, readingredhead, if you don't mind sharing? -
Wait listing is NOT the end!

I got the "Your chances are still really good for getting in." I guess that means i'm closer to the top of their wait list, but who knows. What if they have a freakish year with over accepts? That's what I find most frightening! I don't think DGSs and POIs are in the business of giving you false hope though (at least, I hope not!). I'm willing to wait till April 15 if I have to...but still, readingredhead is right- what a terrible limbo to be in! -

As someone who is currently wait listed at their top choice program- I can't tell you how much I appreciate this advice. Thanks so much! -
Congrats!
