  1. So I just called Columbia College because I was told letters were sent out Friday, Feb. 24 and I still hadn't received mine so I thought it was lost in the mail or something. Come to find out they sent out TWO BATCHES of letters and the second batch went out yesterday. My letter was in the second batch. So now I get to chew on what it means to be in the SECOND batch. Rejection? Acceptance? Does it mean anything at all? Maybe they divided them up by zip code? Who knows. Torture. At least it'll be hear soon.
  2. Columbia College sends out notifications today via snail mail, at least for the photography program. Just the idea that my name is on an envelope in their office is making me anxious! I wish someone there could open it and read it to me over the phone.
  3. Columbia College sends out the MFA in Photography notification letters today via snail mail. Aaaahhhh!
  4. What does it mean when a professor from the interview committee writes to tell you that the comittee is "recommending" you for admission to their program but that the decision has to come from the Graduate Coordinator's office? "Official notices of acceptance have to come from the graduate coordinators office, and that office also has to approve our recommendation after they review your file." Does that mean the office just has to double check my files with my undergrad school, etc? And then I'm in? Or does it mean, the jury is still out? So confused!
  5. I'm so nervous, you guys. I'm just a ball of nerves. My stomach is constantly in knots. I have to find some way to relieve this. Has anyone else found some good calming techniques? I'm going to pick up my new drum kit on Friday. Hopefully banging on some new drums will provide some distraction and stress relief. Have an interview via Skype tomorrow. The pressure's on especially with the rejection from Yale. End of the month can't get here fast enough. I can't WAIT to hear back from Columbia College.
  6. Don't let it reflect on you. Don't internalize the rejection. There are so many factors that go into the decisions schools make and some of them don't have anything to do with your work. For example, schools look at the entire puzzle of the student body and see which new pieces will compliment the existing puzzle. Does that make sense? And if the decision does reflect on your work, it doesn't say that your work is "bad" it just says that it doesn't share a similar aesthetic with Yale. After looking at a lot of the student work from Yale, I've realized more and more that my work is really not aligned with what's going on up there. It's not better or worse. It's just different.
  7. I got the rejection email as well. I feel okay about it and I'm really happy for the people who secured interviews. I hope you knock their socks off. I feel like my work just doesn't fit into the traditional setting at Yale and so it's probably best that I didn't get in. Maybe it would have changed my style in a way that wouldn't be natural for me. And from what I can tell, folks who get rejected from Yale do tend to get into the more conceptual schools. Has anyone heard from Columbia College or have any idea about when we hear?
  8. I'm hoping to start a band when I get to grad school. Just seems like a great stress release thing. Even if we just practice in a living room and never make it on stage. Just gotta make your own fun.
  9. Congratulations berto and cady! Have any photography folks heard from Yale today?
  10. Well, if NONE of us get rejection emails tomorrow, we'll know that we either all made it past the first round eliminations or the rejection emails are coming at a later date. Ha. Has anyone done a Skype interview for grad school before?

    Interview Questions

Found it. Here it is for everyone else:
  12. Heard from UGA today about the interview scheduling. Mine is 6 days from now via Skype. I'm looking for that post that had all the questions that Yale asked to help prepare. Can't find it. Ugh. Freak out. Anyone else see that? Anyway, I had no idea about the possibility of getting a rejection email from Yale on Friday. I'm glad you guys keep me on my toes. Also, waiting to hear from Columbia.
  13. Did anyone see that post with the questions from Yale interviews? I can't find that anymore. Does anyone have the link? Or the questions saved? Sorry I'm a little frantic... I have my first interview for grad school in 6 days (just found out today) and I figured those interview questions would help me at least prepare. Or if anyone else know the kinds of questions asked, that'd be great. UGA does interviews via Skype... so at least I can have a sheet of notes in front of me. Thanks!
  14. Hi all, I'm sure a lot of us have completed our applications and now don't know what to do with ourselves. 6 to 8 weeks feels like an eternity to wait to hear back on anything. I figured we could wait it out together. What was everyone's app process like? School visits, emails to current students, etc.? I applied to only three schools - Yale, Columbia College and UGA. I visited the last two and really wish I had visited Yale. Does anyone have any experience at or visiting Yale? Wishing you all the best possible luck!!! Any feedback from veteran applicants or current grad students appreciated!
