I do theory.
-
I agree with this.
-
I was told this too in an acceptance email.

Hang in there, guys. It's still early. Anyone want to claim today's ND acceptance?
-
And congrats to bauhaus!
-
Wonderful!

So, a bunch of people were wait-listed by ND today. Yet I still haven't heard anything from them. Does that mean I'm out? Hmm...
-
Yay! Thanks so much for sharing this.
-
Ooh, are you basing this expectation on something? I hope you're right.

So, congrats to all who've gotten acceptances and get to go to recruitment events! I'm deeply excited for everyone, and I know I certainly can't wait I was wondering if anyone has some general advice for these events -- what to wear (a suit? a nice sweater & long skirt? what kind of shoes?), what kinds of questions to ask POIs and current grad students, etc. Thanks in advance and good luck to each of you reading this!

Positive thinking can't hurt. Here's to everyone receiving good news!

Well, Cornell makes US News's list for the Theory subfield at #17, for Comparative at #11 and for IR at #13 (obviously rankings aren't everything but they give you an idea) & I've heard nice things about them from professors. I'll PM you the info on my research interests & POI.
-
Congrats to those accepted by Cornell! I'm still waiting to hear from them...
-
Aww, congrats eph630! That's really incredible, both the acceptance and the fact that you & your BF get to attend school together!

Higher Overall Ranking vs. How Well Known in Subfield
Eudaimonia replied to Scalia's topic in Decisions, Decisions
I've been told (by a professor) the subfield is more important, but I'm not sure if that holds for subjects like biology. I do political science and was advised to value subfield ranking strongly above overall ranking. -
If you have the money to do this, I don't think it's unreasonable at all I was advised to apply to as many as I could afford. I applied to 15.

Congrats to RWBG for Rochester & adblanche for Stanford!

Here is the APSA's list of schools with a link at the bottom to a site that they recommend to let you rank them by your own criteria: http://www.apsanet.org/content_6947.cfm You may also want to Google the USNews rankings.
