I've noticed some schools offer consolation partially funded MA acceptance to PhD candidates they deny. Is that a common practice?

Also, I applied to UT, but now I feel that I should have applied to their dual MA in Slavic Studies/Public Affairs. I want to e-mail the director of the East European institute to ask her about applying to that program, but she is probably the person I would want to work with if I do get into the history program there. Should I just let it lie until I receive my official notice?

I feel ya, doodle! I keep repeating my CV, research and language skills in my head until I feel crazy. Then I worry that I should have applied to more "safety" schools. Then I tell myself that if I don't get into top tier a PhD is not the right route for me... It's a vicious cycle.

I got an e-mail from Chicago last week advising me to apply for FLAS funding. I keep hoping this is because they want me but won't be able to fund me fully.... any thoughts?????

I am completely obsessing over this process. Can't they just make up their minds already?
