  1. I am also waiting on Stanford, but haven't heard a single peep out of them. If they are starting their admits now, I too would be interested to know.
  2. I didn't see anything on the results board, do you know someone personally that has been admitted?
  3. Has anyone heard anything out of Stanford? I haven't found anything on the results board, but thought it may be possible that people have had informal talks with professors there. Also, if you were on a visit after you were admitted to a school, what are some questions that you would absolutely ask, regardless of the program/professor? Here are some of mine: What percentage of admitted students go on to finish a PhD (either at that school, or elsewhere)? What percentage find tenure-track positions after graduating? How does the department handle summer funding? Does the school have a formal exchange with any major universities abroad? Is study abroad encouraged? Where? For language acquisition or research? How does study abroad affect funding? What classes do graduate students TA and how much of the lesson planning/teaching are they responsible for? What funding is available for conferences and presentations? I would love to hear other questions people find important!
  4. Very true, it's still early and Chicago seems to work almost exclusively in the modern period and later. Here's hoping.
  5. I am a Japanese lit person, yes. We are working in the same period, so (unfortunately) I can more or less toss Chicago out the window. Either way, UPenn and Chicago in one week is something to be very proud of. Congrats again!
  6. Congratulations Doxie! Chicago is a great school. You said earlier that your specialization was Japanese literature. What period are you working on?
  7. Anyone willing to claim the Chicago post on the results board? Does it seem like they were notifying everyone today? Any information on numbers accepted etc?
  8. That must be a huge relief to know you have one acceptance regardless of what happens. Congrats! I should hear the results of my fellowship nomination next week, and I had an encouraging response from another school. Nothing has been finalized, however, so I'll wait until I get the official results.
  9. Board has been pretty quiet this week. Anyone hear from their schools? Or rumors that they will hear from schools? Judging from previous years, the earliest acceptances should be next week.
  10. Thanks! You mentioned that your acceptance came from a school with rolling admissions. Are they waiting for you to find out the results from your other school, or are they pressuring you to let them know early?
  11. For future reference, everyone should ask Fell4Ever for advice whenever they have a question. Good news seems to be contagious. I emailed my departments directly about funding and one of the grad directors replied last night telling me I was nominated for a university fellowship! Don't be afraid to ask questions, I suppose!
  12. Hello all, This is my first post to the forum, though I have been lurking for a month or so. I am applying to a handful of programs for Japanese literature. I'm wondering if anyone has started their financial aid applications. It seems some of my programs have a fast-approaching aid deadline, but haven't given me any indication of how to proceed. Any advice from those who have started or finished the process? Thanks!
