God, don't even mentio the GRE. I'm almost sure that if I don't get in, it will because of that lousy test.
-
I didn't have any trouble with my application status on the website, but received an email in the beginning of March saying that I had not submitted my official transcripts. Turns out they lost them, but I resubmitted them immediately after. I'm sure that's what put me at the bottom of the pile.

I'd say that it depends entirely on what you want to work with afterwards. If you want to work in the Foreign Service then sure, get on the MSFS wait list. If you want to work in the private sector, an IO, think tank or NGO, then one of the other school is probably just as good or better. Also depending on your area of focus, of course.

Congratulations!

Georgetown (Walsh SFS) - Strengths/Weaknesses
Jeppe replied to Cornell07's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Judging from what I have seen so far, I'd say that your chances of going on to a PhD from Georgetown should be as good as from, say, SIPA. I know of a few who have been admitted to top Poli Sci programs after doing the SSP at Georgetown. However, the strongest IR programs in terms of academic qualifications seem to be Yale IR and WWS. -
I would rather be in the lucky 3% who get good funding ...
-
Who's still waiting? My guess is that they will make decisions today and let us know tomorrow.
-
Hi Escincau. How focused are you on East Asia? I'd say that if this is an area of major importance to you, the offer from UCSD sounds really good. I know the program is not as highly praised as the other IR programs around (Gtown, SAIS, Fletcher etc.), but I think it is only a question of time, and when it comes to East Asian studies, they are hard to beat. Regarding no $ from SAIS vs a full ride at American (or Elliott), all else being equal, I would most likely go for the full ride.
-
Yeah, called them twice, just got a pre-recorded message. Oh well, it's not like Maxwell is the only school I'm waiting to hear from at least, heh.
-
Count me in.
-
Congrats Godiva! And yeah, I'm still doing the waiting game as well.
-
Dammit, I still haven't heard anything. Wrote the IR admissions staff four days ago, but no reply. I know I only send in my application a few days before deadline (end of January), but I would still expect a decision by now.
-
It was the same last year - Georgetown is very slow. I wouldn't expect to hear from them before the middle or end of next week to be honest.
-
That is so awesome. I want one of those when I become an internet billionaire.
-
Yeah, I'm left in the 20% club as well. The worst part is that it's most likely because they lost my college transcripts and only noticed last week. Oh well, I'm in at Yale, so I guess even a rejection from SIPA wouldn't be such a big deal. Best of luck to all of you
-
Welcome sas. Here's to hoping that we'll all know at the end of today. Don't know if its a good or a bad sign that there have only been posted acceptances/waitlists so far today though.

Anyone else heard anything from SIPA today? I'm still waiting ...

Poll: What Work Experience Do You Have?
Jeppe replied to Cornell07's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Hi Zourah, what did you do at the UN? Was it in NY or in the field? -
I'm in a similar situation. Unless I get a good offer at a school in New York I will have to take the train between my university and my job/SO every day - the trip is about 2 hours, so I guess that I will get a lot of reading done on my way, without too many distractions.
-
Congrats mate. So far I've only heard about people getting up to and including 20k reductions, no full tuition.
-
I'm a visiting student at SIPA right now, taking courses along with regular degree students - I've only been here this semester so my experience is arguably limited. So far my impression is that the school is definitely bigger than several of the other top policy programs and you will feel this in some aspects like during the core curiculum, which mostly features large classes and little faculty contact. However there are a lot of seminars and workshops with small classes, all of my professors have been very open and willing to engage with students, and there are several research projects to get involved with if you seek them out. Ultimately I believe your experience will depend on which of the professors you wish to work with and how proactive you are.

Admits with no funding or no word on funding yet?
Jeppe replied to Tumbleweed's topic in Waiting it Out
I know how you guys feel. Got admitted to my top choice school last week, but no word on funding yet, and I honestly don't know when they'll let me know. I'm still to know if I got in at a couple of other schools, but the wait on funding news is even worse. -
Radio Silence from Gtown MSFS. Anyone heard anything?
Jeppe replied to slothrop99's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Last year Georgetown (the SSP) didn't send out information by email, but only py post. I guess it doesn't make a big difference for US-based applicants, but it does drag the waiting out for people overseas. -
Hmm, I'm fluent in English (which is not my native language) as well as Swedish, Danish and Norwegian. Basic knowledge of French and Spanish. Unfortunately I haven't studied any of these since high school, which is kind of killing me right now, as I might have to start from scratch with language courses at grad school.
