  1. Congrats eatriceorgohome! Glad to hear you're all excited about ULL and the family proximity thing is indeed comforting. Lafayette is amazing, laid back, music's awesome, I've been down there a few years back and I swear I'd go for a Louisiana crawfish over any Bloomington dish. JeremiahParadise - I've been emailing professors all day long and you're right, most of them didn't know anything about ULL and had nothing but good stuff to say about IU. I also got into Indiana with a PhD minor in Jewish Studies/Hebrew Lit which can be a cool niche to help boost future job opportunities. Looks like no zydeco music for me. Bring it on John Mellencamp!
  2. Just got an email from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with the wonderful news of acceptance to their English PhD. I'm currently waitlisted for TA funding, but wanted to get you guys' input regarding the university and the program. Besides it looking great, it's really hard to find info about it (ranking, placement etc...). Did anybody consider applying to this school? I see there's another acceptance on the board (anyone cares to claim it?). Thing is, I already gotten into Comp Lit program at Indiana University with a first year fellowship and TAship for the later years. I know it's a highly respected program with wonderful reputation but Louisiana sounds sooo romantic and it seems like a much better fit! Head says IU but heart wants ULL! Would love to see what you think! You guys are all so awesome and helped me so much with this lovely forum so far! So yes - IU or ULL? Anyone?
  3. Just English? Sometimes I wish I was doing just English... Damn you subject GRE!
  4. Hi guys! Oregon was my first choice as well. Seems like there's not too many of us out there... Such a great school and such a lovely location, although after this morning's result board, well, I refresh my email every three minutes and start losing hope. Anyone wants to claim that acceptance?
  5. Hi everybody!! Never had the guts to post anything till now, but still, the forum was like crack cocaine during the last couple of months. I applied to 15 comp lit programs and so far got into Indiana University (rejected from the Ivies and than some more) and although I'm still waiting on a few, seems like it's going to be Bloomington after all. The only thing, see I was given a first year fellowship and than, well, nothing. My POI said there are plenty of funding opportunities and TAs stuff I can be appointed to, given my good grades and all, but nothing is promised, which kinda suck because after all, I will take my family from Brooklyn, NY to Indiana. I'm sure he's right about the future opportunities. It seems like they don't want to say anything just in case, you know, to cover their asses so I won't come with a lawyer or something and say "you promised!" So even though I don't really have a choice between schools, this is a big decision! I was hoping to get into UOregon but after this morning's result board I guess that ain't going to happen. So what do you guys think? Would you take the offer and move your life just because a POI said that things are going to be okay?
