  1. Pika, Was your offer given over the phone by the director of the program? My potential program director offered me funding over the phone last night, which I am thrilled about but it'd be nice to have some written confirmation before signing on the dotted line... did your guy say anything about sending a letter with the info?
  2. I'd lean towards AU. Do well your first year and compete for second year funding. Plus, more than a few students this year who were offered funding may turn it down to attend other institutions. Talk to the office to see if you can be considered for that return funding. AU is a solid program that can offer you pretty good possibilities in the beltway. I would only do Pitt if you had entry level experience, or have strong connections, or are willing to go that extra mile to put yourself out there. You will enter that job market competing against SAIS, Elliott, MSFS and AU kids who are interning throughout the year. Its a tough decision-I'm dealing with a slightly similar situation at the moment as well. Good Luck
  3. Console, I've heard that a majority of second year SAIS MA students receive some funding during the second year. Is this in fact true and if yes, how much is the average award? In addition, by and large do most SAIS students who enter into the World Bank, OPIC etc. usually have strong finance/consulting/private sector development before having come to SAIS? Also, are the students who are able to obtain jobs in the multilateral organizations usually foreign nationals or are American citizens competitive for jobs there as well? Also, I'd appreciate any insights you might have concerning SAIS as compared to MSFS if you're familiar with that program.
  4. Did any of you guys get a call from a professor in your proposed department? If yes, was it a general conversation or are they gonna grill about future plans/classes etc?
  5. hey don't lose hope... I'm probably going to be declining my admin offer in favor of SAIS (although its gonna be painful, as I am a hoya)
  6. Lol Zourah..we had the opposite experience...I got my rejection from KSG and an acceptance from MSFS...
  7. Ok so the wait wasn't very long: SAIS it is!
  8. Ok...so I didn't get anything yet... I hope this isn't SIPA the sequel...
  9. "I also heard that many students get funding in their second year, rather than first. " JPA, Did you get any information on what what the average package is? I've tried finding info online, but SAIS students and admin seems pretty tight lipped about it.
  10. Same sort of dilemma for me as well. I don't have as awesome of an offer as you do, but I've got what would amount to a tuition waiver at UCSD IR/PS and possibly a very significant amount of money at Elliott. I've got a feeling I'm not going to get much from SAIS and if I do get into MSFS, its not likely either. I've been trying to find out more online about second year funding at SAIS but haven't been all that successful. All I can ascertain is that a majority of the class gets funding the second year. If anyone can shed light on what the average package is, that would be extremely helpful. I don't want to end up like that kid at columbia who thought he was getting 18K and got a rude surprise.
  11. Waitlisted...I can't believe I had to wait two and a half weeks longer for that...
  12. ^^^ At this point, I'm not settling for anything less than a top shelf drink yourself into oblivion party...
  13. ^^^ Wow Congrats! Ok, so anyone else with me in the .0000001% club?
  14. To the people who posted that they received their decisions today-Did you guys get an email or anything and also, were you actually accepted/rejected yesterday and just posted the result today?
  15. Nothing here either... but I suppose they could post decisions anytime today.
  16. ^^^ Actually GW has the lowest tuition out of anyone....20K for one year...so that means 8K tuition a year.
  17. "i'm in the same club. and i guess i'm still not in the whatever phase. I'm in the "im so mad" phase, because it will NOT be fair being so anxious for three weeks and then beeing rejected. i wonder why it takes so long" Haha...I guess at the end of it, I'm not in the "whatever" phase either given that I'm still checking this site so often...but yeah I will be annoyed if I'm rejected primarily cause it took them so long to do it... seriously at this point, even if they do want to reject us, they should just tell us we're waitlisted so we can walk away with some dignity and have the illusion that some members of the adcom really did want to accept us.
  18. I'm in the less than 20% club-you know its funny, at this point I'm just kinda like whatever...
  19. Having read some of the posts on the SIPA admissions blog, anyone else get the sense that they haven't reviewed all of the apps yet (even first round), because it sounds like they didn't even start reviewing half of the apps until after the first set of decisions were posted on March 4. For example, some people on this board posted that they only just completed their apps a week or so ago by sending in transcripts and other documents. Also the blog repeatedly says that its irrelevant as to when an application is read In which case, doesn't that mean that they're sorta doing this in a rolling manner? And if they are, how fair is that given that everyone paid the same damn application fee and submitted their stuff by the deadline?
  20. ^^^ I got the same letter but, yeah, it was for International Affairs. I'd imagine you'll hear something either by the end of this week or early the next. My guess is that GWU is trying to put everything out at once rather than have trickle system.
  21. ^^^ I'm in agreement with Cornell07. I think for people who are serious about entering the non-profit world or government service, it's probably best to go to a slightly less renowned school if you get signficant funding than have to pay 80K in debt. Its not law school... That is, unless your independently weatlhy...in which case go with the name.
  22. I kinda respect the way fletcher did it-at least everyone knew within two days. SIPA's system is kind of annoying. At any rate, without funding, dunno if I'd want to take on the 80K+ in tuition alone, especially given that I want to go into government service.
  23. jduds, I'm still waiting to hear back as well...SIPA really does seem to be sending a mix of things although it seems like thurs and fri had a lot of acceptances. I wonder if they've admitting on a rolling basis, or if the people who haven't heard back are being argued over.
  24. Blackbriar, I just read their blog and it does seem as if you have reason to be hopeful. I was going on what they had said yesterday, that they were posting by category i.e. admit, waitlist, deny and that they would try and get all three done by Monday. But in the comments section of the latest post, they seem to indicate that they did in fact send out a mix, and some people posted just posted rejections on the board. So it is possible that you're right. At any rate, you seem to really Fletcher, so I hope it does work out for you. Best of Luck.
  25. I spoke with someone from the admissions staff and was told that after about a week or so, the online application system was not updated. I was concerned about a possible missing recommendation, and she said that unless you get an email from the admin office indicating an incomplete app, you should be fine.
