It looks like the original poster, enonce, deleted his/her post from this thread for whatever reason.

Congratulations!!! That is such awesome news.

Go to the Results page and type "Brown Media" into the search bar. One person has been notified thus far.

Someone posted an acceptance for Brown's MCM program earlier today. He/she was notified by email. No GRE stats, GPA, or additional information was provided regarding his/her profile. No rejections have been posted for this season yet, though-- just this one acceptance.

Finally caved and emailed UCSB regarding my application status. I was informed there have been many rejections and only a few acceptances thus far. I'm still in the running, and they should have decisions made by the end of the month. I've decided "still in the running" is celebration-worthy at this point.

I have not received a funding offer from Temple yet; I've been told I should know sometime in April. However, I have been warned by some folks who know the program and have some inside information that it is possible I might not receive adequate funding given the budget crunch the city/university/department have faced recently. Without a solid funding package, I could not accept as I am trying not to burden myself with too much more student loan debt. So, I'm waiting to hear back from my remaining five programs, then funding at Temple. If it doesn't work out this season, I will most likely move back to Texas, as the job markets in Austin and Houston are substantially better than here in Louisville. Work (and pay down existing loans!), volunteer, retake the GRE to try to squeeze out a few more points, submit papers, reapply.

For as much as I read up on the admissions process and pored over old Grad Cafe posts, I was still not ready for the actual waiting period. Seeing some admissions and rejections posted for programs you've applied to while seeing your own application status unchanged is maddening. It's compounded with friends and family a) asking if you've heard anything yet (like you wouldn't be screaming your success from the rooftops of social media) reassuring you that every school will put a gold star on *your* applications and c) demanding to know what your backup plan is. Hopefully tomorrow won't be so quiet. *fingers crossed*

Heard from a grad there they might not even get to meet until March to make decisions for logistical reasons. However, at least for the rhetoric department they are having some meeting on valentine's day that might deal with admissions. So maybe soon, maybe not! but at least it seems they haven't really started rather than like "were all rejected!"

Brown, much like UPenn, feels like more of a Hail Mary pass than the other applications. (Not to suggest that I think I'm a shoe-in for any program, mind you, but to say that they're both Ivy, highly selective, and attract the most competitive applicants). I'm with you-- the program just looks incredible. Even though I feel the odds are heavily weighted against me, I couldn't NOT apply.

Speaking of Northwestern, have you heard anything regarding your program? I've seen some interviews posted for the Screen Cultures program (to which I applied), but I've heard nothing from the school. Old posts from previous years lead me to believe there's a big interview weekend when all programs for that department conduct interviews on site.
-
So, I suppose those of us who did not get interviews should probably go ahead and consider this an automatic rejection given there are so, so few spots this year. Bummer. But congrats to you for at least making it onto the waitlist. Fingers crossed that a spot opens up for you if that's your top choice.

You've hit upon another one of the variables in the admissions process-- interviews. Which schools do them? If you don't receive one, is it possible to still be admitted? The unfortunate thing, though, is that it varies from school to school, department to department. Some schools will not admit students they have not interviewed; some do not interview anyone. In some cases, interviews occur when the school isn't sure about an applicant OR they are feeling them out to determine if they are worthy of fellowships/better funding packages. For example, I'm currently nervous because three programs I applied to have conducted some interviews and admitted some applicants-- and my application statuses haven't changed for those schools. It's unsettling because I don't know if that means I automatically have three rejections coming my way. On the flip side, I also applied to UT Austin's Media Studies Ph.D program, and I've been told they typically don't interview.
