Sadly, I was Not Selected (sounds nicer than rejected) for Costa Rica full grant. Email came in at 4:58pm today. Congratulations to everyone- regardless of whether you were selected, alt-ed, or ... ahem, given the opportunity to explore other possibilities. We all worked really hard, and have to keep in mind that it is an honor to even have been recommended to the destination countries at all! I plan to reapply next year, and also apply for the Boren award- so I guess I'll see you all next year, same time, same place.

Looking over the spreadsheet I am wondering- has China not notified yet either?

Me too!! I am trying to channel my nervous energy into house cleaning, but I keep stopping to refresh this thread and my email. Good to see three of us for CR on here now, for months, I've thought I was the only one. Good luck! I hope we get to see each other there- or make ourselves a facebook page.

Congratulations!!!! Central America is getting started! Race you to my inbox!
-
Congratulations!!! This blows my temporary theory that all C/CA applicants were being ALT'ed because of funding issues.

I applied to Costa Rica for a full grant. Are you Full or ETA? Tunnels is right, Costa Rica is a part of CA. Typically, the islands are all considered Caribbean while mainland countries (Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama) are called Central America. Mexico, and the South American countries are all individually selected. I wouldn't hold my breath to hear back today... well, I still am, but it's not likely if Pam says we have a delay. And with that, I'm off to refresh my email and scour my spam folder.

My brain is going going to pop out of my head! Why why WHYYYYYY is CA taking so long? Congratulations, though, on Caribbean folks knowing they will have an answer tomorrow. I will be checking in frequently to see how everyone fares.

Precisely! Congratulations!!! Let's hope everybody gets more funding so that all the alternates can move up! Everyone here is so deserving. On that same sappy note, I think you all are amazing and I'm so happy this forum is here for us all to support one another.

............phbbbbllllltttttttt.......... Another weekend. Remember when we used to be excited for those? Now, it just means two more days of no news. I had a cashier at the grocery store say "Still nothing back on Costa Rica!!???" (My husband told her we -might- be going there), so now I'm even frustrating near-strangers with this wait. In brighter news, I am finally finished with my horrible job and never, ever, ever have to go back there AND my documentary film screened last night to a packed house and was a total hit!!! I will ride that happy wave until Monday, when the refreshing and spam-folder-checking begins anew!

Congratulations!!! I initially planned to do my project in Venezuela, but found a really great host organization in Costa Rica that is a perfect fit. If I don't get the grant this year, I will reapply for Venezuela next year- maybe I'll hit you up for advice

Some days, I am chomping at the bit to know RIGHT NOW whether I have been selected. Other days, I'm much more laid-back about it. Today was a mellow day.... until I read this series of posts. Now I am back on the "When is 'soon?' I thought decisions had been made, we were just waiting on final review. What could she possible mean by 'soon?' What sort of a pause exactly, and what could that pause be swollen with?" I feel like I may be up there with joseph1983 soon- just word salad- if I don't hear something back "soon."

Question: How would one list their status as a finalist and/or alternate on a CV? List it with accomplishments and awards? It doesn't seem (to me) to fall into a category I have listed in my resume. I am just trying to think ahead to my options if I get declined or listed as alternate if we ever... ahem... I mean- when we get word back from C/CA. Which, I'm sure will be this afternoon. I mean, it is only 4pm on a Friday. There's still hope for this week, right?

I hadn't seen that. It's brilliant. Hilarious! Thank you for the (actually) humorous reprieve. This is waaaay better than what my sister and best friend have been come up with in their failed attempts at comedy. Here's to another week of "Reeee-fresh!"

I was venting to my sister about how frustrating it is to not know what the next year will look like and how, at this point, even a rejection would at least give me some sort of guidance. She, being the darling sibling that she is, said, "Wouldn't it be funny if you didn't even get recommended, it was just a glitch in the system that sent you that email and you've just been waiting and waiting for no reason?" ..... ............um, no. That would be the opposite of funny. That would be like telling a pregnant woman on the day before her due date that she never really had a baby, and that she was just a part of a psych study or test trial for a weight gaining pill. Thanks though, sis, for giving me another thing to worry about. Note to self: This Mother's Day, send Mom an invoice for therapy needed for all the years of psychological torture her other daughter has put me through.
