  1. Hi! Yes, I know... I've been touring the States in the past two weeks! This kept me very busy :-) The interview at Yale was challenging. Very interesting, but hard. In all the other schools I wasn't required to bring tangible work, and the interview was a nice chat [with calarts - an HOUR long chat haha]. At Yale though, it was a big presentation with no less than 6 critics, that lasted 45 min. They were friendly, but kept interrupting [also each other], jumping from project to project, asking difficult [but intelligent] questions and criticizing. I could tell they all read my statement with attention - and all had things to say. This was nice to know - since they are all very talented and busy people. So it was an honor! After that I had another interview with two students - that was very nice and interesting. I don't think they will accept me - I was a bit nervous, and felt that I'd have spoken better in Hebrew. Also, I feel like I left an impression of a not-mature enough or not experienced enough person. They also didn't really compliment any of my work - besides my writing skills... Maybe they didn't like it. So I really don't think I made it, but it sure was an experience!!
  2. question - when everyone here mentions "financial aid" - do you mean scholarships or federal loans?
  3. Hi, I was accepted to the MFA Design program [2yr] in SVA - I sent them an email yesterday, asking when do they deliver information regarding financial aid. They should probably answer soon - I know that CalArts sends it in the beginning of April, and that MICA sent it last week. I'm sure SVA know that the financial aid question plays a major role in our decisions - they'll probably have it out soon. What's your program?
  4. Hi there, yesterday I got an acceptance email from MICA! I'm so happy!!! Good luck everyone!
  5. You too! Thank you very much! Good luck. : - >
  6. Congratulations on all the good news. SVA invited me to an interview! Yay. Now I 'just' need to pass the interviews...
  7. Sure! Tell me about it... We share the same boat.
  8. Hi, as far as I know - schools invite selected candidates to interview on campus, period. A phone / Skype interview is available to those who can't attend - due to distance or time issues. I'm not an international, since I'm an American citizen - but I live abroad and my undergrad is from a university outside the States. I was invited to several interviews, some I'm attending in person and others I'm skyping - and I doubt this "means" anything - it all depends on the candidate I think. I know a lot of internationals getting accepted to schools via Skype / phone, and also some who were rejected after attending in person. So it depends!
  9. That's certainly nice her! Good luck! In my interview the program director also said she really liked enjoyed reading my statement and looking at my work... but now I don't know what to expect!
  10. Oh no!! Too bad! How did you hear about it?
  11. Hi, I also applied to that program in SVA - I'm waiting for an interview invitation [hopefully]. Good luck to us!
  12. Joining the the praises Kazoo! Chapeau for being so caring and positive :]
  13. Congratulations to everyone getting good news! Two questions - To all those interviewing at CalArts via Skype - did they contact you already to set a time? It's been over a week since they told me that a department faculty member will contact me and I'm a little worried. And - has anyone heard from SVA? Thank you all :]
  14. Hi! I also requested a Skype interview, since I'm located on the other side of the planet. They haven't gotten back to me yet...
  15. Thanks outline! I hope all goes well... It's only half the way. I hope you get in wherever you want :]
  16. Hi, I was just informed by RISD that I'm invited to an interview [via email]. Good luck to everyone this week! Yay.
  17. Congrats! From reading here, you're the first to get an answer from RISD. I applied to the 2 year MFA graphic design program.
  18. Hi losemygrip, Thanks for the advice - I will bring the stuff, only I think it can be a little funny to create a new book just like that, to two weeks, containing all my different projects... It feels like making a catalog for a retrospective exhibition about me! That will happen in 40 years, if I'm lucky :] So I totally agree with you that if I'm into cataloging my work - It's better, more up-to-date and practical to do so digitally [as I did]. However, since Yale asks to see original work, and also previous versions of the final products - it seems to me that I will just bring the things so they can look at each project individually and go through it. Of course web based work and motion graphics are major disciplines, and I'm sure Yale are open to that and encourage this work - they do not specify that your work should by only print and craft. I think they are open to anything as long as you can explain it and there's more to it than a cool font on a poster or a special effect in a motion based work.
  19. Hi nishtha, Good luck! My Skype interview with MICA is on Wednesday - I'll message you about it if you remind me :] I spoke to a current student there, and he said that the interview is more like an interesting and friendly conversation about design. He was interviewed two years ago on the phone, while washing the dishes... So try to be calm, and all will be well :]
  20. Hi Eschaton, Thanks for the response! It's exactly how I thought - looks like I will have a lot of planning/packing/organizing to do. It's good to know though, that Yale emphasizes on your actual print work and focuses so much on print culture and craft - this is the only school I applied to that requires this.
  21. True Kazoo, the definition of "creative" is likely to vary between schools. I was watching this brilliant video [recommended to all designers, and artists in general] - the first thing Beirut says, is that he's not a creative person. As the lecture proceeds you understand [not surprisingly] that the exact opposite is true - yes he is, extremely creative. Only not in the "classic" sense, not how we are used to define creative people. Still, this makes me wonder - if I would state in an interview that "I am not a creative person and do not remember to have any personal projects or anything to say" [quoting Beirut himself] - would the school consider accepting me? Probably not.
  22. Congratulations to everyone getting interviews / acceptances! It's encouraging to see that there are fellowships out there. Has anyone heard from RISD and SVA?
