Hey maximilion, what is your subfield? I was accepted at umich also, and am doing Persian diasporic lit. What do you know about the comp lit program, in terms of hearsay (obviously I can "research" the program on my own, I'm more interested in if you know anyone who went there and what he or she thought). Good luck on all your other schools!

I'm doing contemporary Persian diasporic literature, based mainly in France.
Don't feel down yet! I'm not convinced that no word means definite rejection...at least not yet! have you spoken to anyone who has heard from either penn or texas? They might just be slower this year. Where else did you apply?

hey all! I'm also applying to comp lit programs for Iranian literature (also applying to near eastern studies depts). I got into UMichigan and WUSTL, but I'm waiting on UT Austin. has anyone heard anything from them? Or does anyone have any input about the comp lit programs at either umich or washu? Any advice/insight would be super helpful! Good luck to everyone!!

Hey fellow nes-ers! Quick question for you all: the deadline for FLAS applications has not yet passed for two of my schools, but I don't know if I should apply. I am applying to phd programs. Does it make sense to apply before you're even admitted into the program, or do you have a higher chance of receiving the FLAS fellowship after you've already spent a year there? on the other hand, will grad adcoms look more favorably on my application if they see that I might also get FLAS? I don't really understand how this would work: if it's a five year program, they'd either way have to make sure there is some kind of funding for those five years, it's not like they can rely on me actually receiving it each year right? GAH I'm so confused and tired and kljdfdfjsdjklf when will this be over??

True, to both marruma and khayzuran. I think though they do modern and post modern, but not so much contemporary. Where did you apply, khazuran, btw?

What's the word? Who are the UT acceptances? Congrats!!
My "sense" of Columbia is that they pretty much reject everyone, especially if you work in the contemporary. But I've also heard they love Said enthusiasts (naturally) so maybe it's a really good fit for you!

I applied for advanced beginning Persian. We'll see what happens! We're supposed to hear back by early March, right? Did last year's batch hear back any earlier than that?
hi blingem, I did this last summer and it was great! Dushanbe is an amazing place, you just have to be careful about what you eat, it's easy to get really sick. If you get accepted and have any questions, message me!

Ugh I know! I just got the (1) and looked and the subject was "admissions" only to find it was just an ad for a school i've never heard of let alone applied to. Minor heart attack followed by extreme disapointment

I had a dream that I was talking to some people on gchat when all of a sudden my POI starts chatting with me and says I've been admitted. I got so excited that I accidentally wrote what was intended for my friend to my POI, something along the lines of "oh my f***ing god! I cant believe it! they actually are letting me in! I cant believe they didn't see through my application!" My POI gets so offended that he changes his mind and rejects me right then and there on gchat...

Where have you all applied and for what? I'm interested in contemp Iranian lit and applied to ut austin, uc berekely, uchicago, uarizona, and haven't heard from anywhere (though i guess it's still early). It's SO stressful waiting!

CONGRATS!!! No word yet, though I applied to comp lit. Still though, no word by now is an implicit rejection. Oh well. Who did you want to work with at austin I had put ghanoonparvar. Where else did you apply? Are you doing phd or masters? Good luck everywhere else!
