It may. Any other people receive emails and are abroad? Any emails domestically?
-
I agree.

Don't forget Univ. of Chicago's graduate Economic courses! It is among the top three hands down!

I'm freaking out guys and feeling a bit nauseous! Good to know that just because I didn't get an email I still may have a lifeline. Congratulations to you that have been accepted and I'll be waiting here in Los Angeles for those envelopes to get here soon!
-
Have those of you that have gotten accepted by mail also received an email. Are some getting emails and others snail mail?
-
So for those of us that haven't gotten emails, are we done for...game over or what?

Is there a minimum GRE/GMAT score or GPA required to apply? We do not require a minimum score for the GRE/GMAT examination or a minimum GPA. ThIs is from the link. Where is the minimum score?
-
Where did you get those notes from? I thought they didn't have cutoffs.
-
I called them last month about stats and they said they don't release that information.

In reality, it is all data entry. They enter what they can and what they have in front of them and it is usually a mixture of both.

Pepper: Just because you haven't heard doesn't mean you didn't get in. It just means you haven't gotten in yet!

Hey! Maybe the eightball is wrong and we'll hit the 25% chance of getting our notification along with an acceptance...a little to optimistic...uhhh maybe.
-
Congrats...here's an e-drink for you guys...cheers!

I'm going nuts people! Anybody have any other thoughts on this?

Yes, I wonder about the change of pace and lifestyle, but I know it'll be better than growing up on the streets dodging bullets and being harassed by corrupted L.A. cops from the 80's and 90's. About L.A. public schools, I remember being in 10th grade doing a spelling bee contest instead of learning real words that would be found in the SAT, telling the undercover narcotics officer behind me to stop asking me where to get drugs because I knew she was a narc, and carrying weapons to school because you never knew when the payback was going to get you. I'm not worried about adjusting, I'm just worried about not getting in

Thanks for your kind words. I've been feeling like an underdog going up against most of you. Funny thing is, I never even graduated from high school! I just worked my butt off to get out of the ghetto and stay alive. I've been recently feeling dejected because I got rejected from SIPA, Fletcher, Yale, and WWS. I feel the noose getting tighter if you know what I mean. All I've ever wanted is to go to a first class school and be trained by the best. I grew up feeling third classed. Going to a public school in L.A., a community college, and a Cal State! I just want a chance to demonstrate my worth and contribute to the dialogue of national security issues.

Afu: You sound like a solid candidate for the program and best of luck to you. I chose IGA and presented my personal experience with gangs. I grew up in Los Angeles and I witnessed the conception and emergence of the world's largest gang MS-13 (street and transnational gangs). I grew up seeing acts of violence towards all kinds of people. Sometimes it was my friends committing the crimes, and other times it was towards them. I have mourned many friends and seen their lives decay through drug abuse. By the time I was in high school I was indoctrinated in gang and drug culture from trafficking humans and drugs, to purchasing weapons on the black market, etc. I used all these experience and more to argue my case for admission. I may not have worked for a top organization like the U.N, but I have real life experience when it comes to understanding the mindset and logistics of how transnational criminal organizations think and operate. I'm currently teaching high school English to those kids that face the many challenges I faced. Hopefully, Harvard will see that I am an asset to them with great promise as a leader.

So far I have to pick between Korbel at DU or Chicago CIR. Korbel seems more practical, an APSIA member, and on paper an excellent Inlt Security curriculum. On the other hand, Chicago has the academics without dispute, name brand and rep, and unforeseen opportunities, but does lack full APSIA membership because it is only an Affiliate Member and the one year program does seem too short, limited, and no internship. Everyone tells me go to Chicago out of the two because it is Chicago, but what do I do?

I just thought I'd start this new thread: Hey guys! I applied to Harvard specifically for the IGA program because I want to focus on security. There is additional funding according to their brochure. I applied to thirteen schools! HKS, SAIS, GTown MSFS and CPSS, Yale, Chicago CIR, WWS, GWU Elliot, American U. SIS, USC Annenberg, Josef Korbel, Tufts Fletcher, Columbia SIPA. Accepted: Denver and Chicago Rejected: Yale, Tufts, Columbia, Princeton, Waiting: HKS, SAIS, MSFS and CPSS, GWU, SIS, USC I'm hoping that the odds of getting accepted into Harvard increase a tad by opting for the IGA program and hopefully there weren't too many people applying for that particular program. I'm curious to know how many of you did apply for the program. I specifically mentioned that my academic focus and area of interest was IGA in relation to international security in my personal statement. In fact, my public policy essay was on gangs since it relates to national security. So I built my whole package to bank on the IGA program. Let me know your thoughts. Who is interested in security studies? Who applied specifically for the IGA program? And do you think the odds are slightly better if you did?

So what does it mean for us, will we be able to get a job when we finish aside from that in the academic sector? How competitive was it to get in? My acceptance letter said they received over 300 apps and the website says they accept about 40-50 people. Do you guys know otherwise? And one last thing, how far do you think the brand name and reputation will take us?
-
Hey guys, So far I've been accepted to Josef Korbel at DU and Univ. of Chicago's CIR program. My focus is security studies. Lets just say that money is not an issue (even though it is, but put that aside for a min) what would you do? According to Foreign Policy Chicago ranks 9 and Denver 12. Denver has a two year international security program that is awesome on paper, but I don't know how they will play out academically and the prestige of the program. Chicago is more academically prestigious, but it is a one year M.A. and you only take 9 classes and three non-credit courses (workshops) and a thesis paper with the option to specialize in a particular area for second year. This second year is geared more for PhD prospects. At Chicago, you take courses from the Public Policy, Law, and Political Science schools (all ranking 8 in the nation for each category) and chances look great for me to get into their law school. If I went to Denver, I would take double the courses in subjects I'm interested in and it is a full APSIA member as opposed to Chicago which is only an affiliate member. Denver seems to be more practical for a career in the defense community and other sectors, but will the school and its name be worth it? I don't know, but I'm going nuts. What do you guys think? By the way, I'm still waiting for Gtwon MSFS and CPSS, HKS, SAIS, SIS, and Elliot.

Please, please, somebody post something!

Rejections & Dejection is there a brighter side?

Actually, according to this years ranking report by Foreign Policy on top M.A programs, it moved up to number 9 on the list. So I think they must be doing something right.
