  1. for those accepted into Ed PhD programs at UCs, do you mind sharing what your financial aid/funding is like? do you think it will be enough to survive in CA with it?
  2. i would also like to add that it's not just the subfield that matters most, but your research approach/method--the more quantitative, the more desirable. i don't totally agree with this, but my partner is currently a professor in the social sciences and this is definitely the case. i also want to echo fidelio's sentiments as well that an economic perspective has taken over the way we view education. psychology has had it's ups and downs, sociology was once a respected way to understand education, and now econ. who knows what will be next... in short, focus on what genuinely interests you and what you are good at, and do it well. the rest will follow
  3. fritz, i'm an accepted phd student and i would say it is HIGHLY likely that you got in. i received a phone call from my advisor in late january and didn't receive anything official (email and snail-mail packet until last week--a whole month later). my status on the web is still unchanged. i hope you receive good news!
  4. i got in for the PhD program, but it's not the same one you applied to. different programs meet at different times and mine was just more on top of i guess.
  5. Hi everyone!! Not sure if many of you applied to Northwestern, but just called them to check up on my application. They've admitted their first round of students and also sent out rejection notices. Those who haven't gotten a decision (via mail or website status) has been wait-listed. Good luck!
  6. There are many disorganized programs out there so don't read too much into it until you get an official acceptance/rejection. Congrats to all who've been accepted and good luck to those still waiting!! This month is half way over so the torture will end soon...
  7. dm242, I was accepted without interview and POI called me for my acceptance. I also had no prior contact with POI prior to being accepted. I'm not sure what the norm is--seems like everyone's experiences are different. I know that letters were sent out yesterday.
  8. Great point dm242! You are the voice of reason that drags us out of our spiraling abyss of pessimism and self doubt
  9. I agree with you about crazy cost of living in South Bay. I'm also planning to have a family soon and my partner and I don't think we'll be able to raise a family on one income in that part of the country! It's interesting how as undergrads, we'd go to the best school we can get in to regardless to these considerations and as adults, it's so much more complicated--the best for you isn't necessarily the best for your family. Good luck with your endeavors!
  10. i agree with you! I guess I'm more of a pessimist, but you're right...until there's news, let's assume it's good news
  11. I didn't, so I'm assuming it's a bad sign. However, I didn't have an interview with UCLA and was accepted so I was hopin'! Did you have an interview with a professor wildviolet?
