Is there anyone else who's still not heard anything (acceptance, rejection, waitlist, etc.) from Vanderbilt? Bah.
-
i see a small wave of rejections on the results page. what should those of us who haven't received anything (acceptance, waitlist, rejection, OR the above "strange" email) expect? just a rejection pending?
-
although i didn't apply there, i know there are a ton of people still waiting on ucla.
-
seconded. it's not like they can un-accept you now. just play cool.

Has anybody heard from the University of Pittsburgh?

just out of curiosity, is it common for the programs to send out their decisions via snail mail? -
oh, man, OR beers are AWESOME
-
is it common in social sciences that advisers take their students along with them when they move?
-
good point. what do you guys think of the programs that are ranked relatively high (say top 25) but aren't explicit about their placement records?

i think several canadian schools, incuding utoronto, ubc, mcgill, are considered elite in the States for almost all academic disciplines. having said that, i personally have seen very few u.s.-based professors who got their degrees from there. so i dunno. it's weird.

What kinds of jobs do Ph.D.'s from non-first tier sociology programs? I'm not talking about star grad students who will succeed no matter where they get their degrees and a couple of other anomalies we can think of. Is there a realistic and legitimate market demand for the majority of sociology Ph.D.'s from non-first tier programs (say, non-top 20 or so?)?
-
i couldn't agree more. thanks for the heads-up and the source, too.
-
LOL what do you mean by that?
-
could be an anomaly. same as yale (just 2 acceptances which have been claimed by no one so far).
-
i think they traditionally have had a cohort of about that size (8-10). so at least that variable is consistent.
-
don't give up just yet. i'm one of the pessimists in this forum, but even i think that, with only 2 acceptance posts and nothing else, it's hard to tell they're done accepting people. with that said, rum and chocolate sound tempting.
-
wow. if they accepted 8, what were they aiming for? 3-4?
-
very interesting. i wonder why no one has posted about this until now.
-
OR beers are awesome. should have applied there, too.
-
i didn't apply there, but i'd be interested in hearing from yale acceptees.
-
LOL i thoroughly enjoyed this answer.

i think writing sample is taken seriously, although i think sop should be considered more seriously -
i think most open houses are "admitted students" weekend events, although there are exceptions. emory, for example.
