  1. Thanks, Mick! I am so grateful for my acceptances. SMU folks said that scholarship notifications are forthcoming. I'm curious to see what comes through with that. Man, if I end up in Dallas, I am seriously looking forward to that farmer's market! Mmmmm. Glad to hear that you're excited about the last school. Ratings are important and useful in making decisions, but instinct is important, too. If it feels right, you can't ignore that! Also, you never know what the future will hold for any school. Your lesser-known program might one day be a beacon in the art world, who knows? Still crossing my fingers for you about UGA though Keep us posted and good luck!
  2. I'm not upset about being invited to the show (I'm with you... I'd love to see it if I could), but every time I see "Tyler School of Art" in my email inbox I get all twitchy and think it's an admissions decision. Nope, just their 4th reminder about the exhibition. It's an issue of timing, not content.
  3. My UGA application status has been in that state for a while, and I received nothing in the mail today. The wait is painful, I agree, and you're right, non-art family and friends just have NO clue. But... I did get an important email today! Accepted to SMU (Southern Methodist University, in Dallas). I know it's not on the radar of most people posting here (I applied to a range of schools regarding rank/size/location/etc.) but it's a frickin' cool program and I'm happy about it! As for these Tyler MFA exhibition invitation emails... grrrr...
  4. I'm a little late posting this, but I'm joining the ranks of those rejected from UCSD. Email at 2am EST Saturday.
  5. I applied to UIC and have not heard anything from them yet.
  6. Make sure to also check out the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston (if you haven't already). I love that city--have fun!
  7. Congrats to all who have gotten good news today! I think this is going to be a good week.
  8. I am in the same boat. This is just a guess, but I bet they're accepting/notifying in stages. You know, the annoying ole' waitlist trick. Congrats on being admitted to CCA, by the way! I had my phone interview yesterday--the person I spoke with was really nice. I wish the rest of the schools were as quick to respond!
  9. Of course it's important to be knowledgable about art and art theory, but I think it's even more important to study the things that inspire you to make art. If you're interested in string theory, read string theory. If you're interested in fairy tales, dig in to those. I've been surprised at how little bits of obscure knowledge or (non-art) theory wiggle their way into my work. It's exciting. Be true to yourself and your interests; the art will follow. Gold stars for all.
  10. What I've gleaned from most graduate school websites is that it is best for you to complete your FAFSA as soon as you can. It expedites the financial award process.
  11. Congrats to everybody with good news today! If you're going to WashU on March 5 for the open house, let me know if you want to meet up. It could be cool to see some of you in person. Just send me a private message
  12. This is tricky... financial stuff will be different for everybody. Only do what you're comfortable with. (If I had to pick between--hypothetically--waiting a year to apply again or acquiring 70K in debt.... I'd wait a year.) Wishing you the best of luck! Congrats, fool4nine! Me, too! Are you going to the open house on the 5th? Congratulations to those getting good news. And hang in there, everybody. This is so tough.
  13. For sculpture, and I just heard today (via email). Somebody from painting heard from them Saturday (I think), via phone call. It looks like they're doing it in stages, so hang in there!
  14. Interview at CCA! This definitely takes the edge off. :-D
  15. Congrats!!!! Did you find out via snail mail or email?
  16. Same here. One professor told me (on more than one occasion), "I think you're going to have your pick." I'm starting to seriously doubt that. No interviews or calls yet seems like a bad sign to me. I really, really hope he's right. But, even though I hate being in limbo right now, I am SO happy for all of you who have been contacted about interviews, etc. Congrats!
  17. I'm right there with you. I had to overnight extra copies of my transcript to three programs yesterday. This is ridiculous. I wish grad schools could receive transcripts from our previous universities electronically. I would pay more money to do that then to have them printed, sealed, mailed, and lost by either the increasingly under-funded USPS or the overwhelmed graduate admissions offices. AAAK!
  18. I just read a great article written last year by an MFA (writing, not visual art) program director. It's a good read. http://chronicle.com/blogs/arts/m-f-a-application-season-etiquette/29172
  19. Ditto! Congrats to you both, and can you send us some cheese curds? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheese_curds
  20. I was notified yesterday that I got into a national juried show. It's not a grad school acceptance letter, but it helped my feelings. This waiting process has made me so anxious! Now I'm ready to see the notifications that matter most... so yeah, ditto on the mailbox camp site. As for the nerves, I'm finding that the gym is very helpful...
  21. Yes, it is here: Congrats on your UGA interview! I am happy for you... and nervous for myself. I'm hoping they just haven't made their calls about sculpture yet :/ Let us know how it goes!!!
