This might make some people laugh....
hopefully the link will work
-
Just check my UT Austin status on the website... denied. Oh man, I really hope it's not a repeat of last year. Please please please!
Dont' get discouraged. This whole process is unnerving and nutty, and a total crapshoot. The factors involved are too many to even imagine.

It seems that LMS is our UW-M insider...
LMS, what did they say about me???
Lol. I wish I knew! I wish I knew what they were saying about all of us! But just seeing that pending link still is a bit of a killer.
Thanks, Lms13. I hope we hear either way. The anticipation is killing me, but then again, not knowing also has its perks. Then I can remain in lala land a little longer. Did UW-M indicate whether they were sending acceptances or rejections via e-mail or snail mail? Oh, and Sapperdaddy, my area of emphasis is modern South Asia.
From what I understand, they do a combination of both, but usually, there is an email followed by snail mail.

Well, did you Wisconsin applicants check off something on the funding for. That you would apply for FAFSA and loans?
I think I may have...I can't remember. All I know is that, apparently, the committee met exactly one week ago today and made decisions last Friday. We *should* be hearing back soon. Unless we were all rejected........
-
Ooh- where does it say that? I'd love to see what my count is.
It says in small grayish letters right beneath the link. And I was wrong. The count was for solely today.
Kill me. But maybe wait until I've been notified officially.

Apparently, when I type in grad cafe to google, it tells me that I've visited this page 138 times in the past two days. Something is seriously wrong.
I'm nuts? I'll concede to that.

We need StrangeLight's take ... SL the floor is yours, take it away?
Stupid question: did you name yourself after Osiris?
If so, it would be even more amazing if you were studying to do Egyptology. I geeked out last night by watching that horrible movie with Brendan Fraser in it....
-
Nope. I guess that means I'm not in... lol.
I doubt it means that. Perhaps it means you've been considered for a fellowship!
-
I understand. Speaking of schools, I just got another email from Wisconsin. This time it was about the change to federal loans...ugh. Any of the other Wisconsin applicants get this email?
-
So my hope has adequately dwindled of getting the good (1). I won't say it's a full out rejection, but things are not looking great for good ol' Notre Dame and I.
But you still have so many others so do like the Brits and chin up, chin up!

So, I finally got some encouraging news today. My M.A. thesis advisor is close with a professor (not my POI) at one of my non-Ivy schools. He was told by this professor that I will NOT be accepted into the program.
???
(“I thought you said you had encouraging news…?”)
The encouraging part is that the professor told him that my application was at the very top of the stack in what they call the “Ivy” pile (Too bad Yale doesn’t seem to agree, but anyway…). They can’t admit me because they do not have a sitting faculty member who can take on doctoral students in my sub-field specialty (I kind of knew this, but I feel that there are other professors who I would be able to work with, but this is a different issue).
My advisor was told by the other professor that objectively speaking, he expects me to be accepted by at least a few of the schools I applied to (this school is one that asks us to name other schools we applied to)…
Its not much, but it sure does make me feel better after a whole lotta nothin’
Wow. If you were in an "Ivy" pile, then I'd expect you'll get into an Ivy! But yes, what does the "Ivy" pile mean exactly? And if you don't mind...what school was it?
-
So none of the other Wisconsin applicants have heard?
-
-
Ok, so I would not look at an acceptance without funding as a "back-handed" acceptance...what I meant was that I cannot afford to go without funding, so for practical purposes it would be be tantamount to a rejection...
That's reasonable. I can't really afford to go without funding as well. Grad school is pretty expensive.
-
But in all honesty, it's probably better to just get in before it gets worse, since the competition and lack of funding seems to only increase with every passing application cycle.
-
Yeh I agree with this, but I hope I don't have to face this reality.
Agreed. It sucks. We'll just have to see where we get in and what we're offered....
-
I didn't receive the Wisconsin email- bummer. I wonder if that means "I don't care about you!" (FEAR style) or if it means "yeh we know you'll fill out FAFSA because my god you're poor."
Maybe both? It can be taken either way. The suspense is killing me.
-
Yep, and I'm "pending" too.
I wonder if this is bad that we got notifications about financial aid........
-
Is anybody planning to supplement their 1st year stipend by working??
Anybody feeling like an acceptance w/o funding is the same as a rejection??
(I answer yes to both)...
I don't think that an acceptance without funding is really a rejection since most state schools are experience economic hardships and have had their funding really cut. There are only so many endowments to go around, and they have to honor prior commitments (like those who won multi-year packages in the past years).
-
Ok...guess I'm not too concerned about that...the department website seems to say that most students do get full funding one way or the other...
Well from what I understand, the funding is in the forms of various external fellowships, RAships, TAships, and project assistantships.
Only a few are excepted with full multi-year funding projects, so most end up with a sort of combined thing of external funding and some financial aid. It's sad to also hear that FLAS was slashed 50%.
-
I got it January 13. Try checking around that date.
-
No...! What did the e-mail say?
It was just an email prompting you to fill out the FAFSA...let me search my email to see when I got it so you can check yours.
-
Also for the all the Wisconsin applicants -- did you guys all get emails about financial aid in early January?

So for those who also applied to UCLA....I just was looking at the website and it's claiming notifications will not be available until mid-March.......ugh.

It makes me wonder what the point of the December 1st deadline was.
