  1. I left you a message, KW58D. For anyone else that's interested, we will begin reviewing material on Feb. 1st and phone interviews would likely be set up within the next few weeks.
  2. Hey guys, I haven't been on here in a bit and I wish I would have done this sooner, but as a first year I/O grad student I'd love to field any questions any of you might have about the application process, what grad school is like, or even the program I'm at. I know this is a stressful time for all of you, so if there is anything I can do to help relieve any stress I'd love to help.
  3. Congrats Chops. Do you mind letting us know which programs you'll be declining?
  4. OHHHH I see. I didn't read the part where you said you had 2 pubs. That should help considerably.
  5. Yes, the APA list is probably more comprehensive than the SIOP list. I know SIOP list is missing a few of the newer I/O Ph.D. programs. Not trying to be discouraging, but I applied last year with GRE scores almost identical to yours (a little lower GREV score) and didn't get in anywhere. This year, I retook the GRE and my scores didn't improve much (3 pts. combined). What made the difference for me was the fact that I had manuscripts under review. Therefore, my suggestion to you would be to join as many research labs as you can (2-3 would look great!) and inquire with whoever you're working with if there would be an opportunity to collaborate on a manuscript. It could be what puts you over the edge! If you're considering retaking the GRE, may I suggest www.magoosh.com. It's cheap and they guarantee a 5 pt increase in your score if you go through the entire program or your money back. Just make sure you start a few months ahead of the retake because there are A LOT of questions. Best of luck!
  6. Yeah, I was nice and gave up the FIT offer pretty quickly. At Albany my POIs are Dr. Williams and Dr. Ford. Congrats Topanga! Are you asking who my POIs are or the schools? My #1 POI at Wright is Gary Burns, but he's not taking students this year (as I'm sure you're aware). My other POI is Dr. Goodwin.
  7. As far as professor fit, Wright State would be my top choice. The thing is, the prof I want to work with at Wright isn't taking students this year... Either way, I'd pick one of those two over Roosevelt. Hate to be one of those jerks that holds on to an offer until the last second, but that may be what it comes down to - sorry to anyone this might impact.
  8. Yeah, you're a little higher than me so you definitely have a better chance than I do. I was just informed that I am ~4th on the waitlist.
  9. Nice! Who was your POI? I worked with Jen Wessel, a newer faculty member there, when she was a grad student at MSU. She's a great resource and very helpful.
  10. I second this! Also hoping to be accepted off their waitlist!
  11. I actually work at a consulting firm with Ph.D. and Master's level I/Os. The situation here is unique in that our Ph.D. employees are actually encouraged to put out papers (along with all of the applied work they do). Hence, they almost have to keep current with the research and are actually putting their statistics knowledge to good use. Not many firms allow for this to happen, but there are some. The Master's level I/Os here, on the other hand, do little to no research and hardly ever help with analyses (scholar or practitioner based). In other consulting firms, Ph.D.s work almost entirely with correlation analyses and hardly have to go beyond regressions. In those same firms, Master's level I/Os might manage a project or consult (depending on their experience or position), but I can almost guarantee that they aren't doing much research. Hope this helps...
  12. Not sure if anyone on here was on the FIT waitlist, but a spot just opened up
  13. Yeah, that is interesting. They didn't tell me anything until I reached out to them. My guess would be that that means you're higher on the list than I am. Best of luck to you! Are you open to the Master's or are you dead set on a Ph.D.?
  14. I have no idea. Dr. Roch said all she could tell me was that I was on the waitlist - I didn't want to pry. I asked her if I could check back in soon and she told me to email her again at the end of next week.
  15. Shushu, I was a little skeptic at first but I really like the model they have for the program. It seems like all of the professors are very open to any questions you might have on any topic, school related or other. I visited them last month and all of the students were very nice and willing to answer any questions I had. The lack of funding is the only thing holding me back from making a decision right now. I just got word that I am wait listed at Albany, but was told to email back in two weeks. If you have any questions that you didn't have answered about the program, message me and I will fill you in as best as I can. To anyone out there awaiting a decision off a wait list at Roosevelt or FIT, I am sorry. I don't have a ton of money to be throwing around and don't want to take out thousands of dollars in loans if I don't have to. If i can get into a well funded program I will take that offer, but I will try to make a decision as quickly as possible.
