Not selected ETA Turkey. Thank goodness I choose a job over the Fulbright. Well, it was a great learning experience and I am truly happy for those who were chosen.
-
Congrats to everyone who heard good news from the Caribbean and I'm truly sorry to all those who were rejected or designated as alternates. And then there was Turkey (cricket, cricket)
-
Agree with the person who said that if they had known it took so long for Turkey to process our application they would have applied to a different ETA program. This thought has crossed my mind a thousand times!!

Thanks oa0176! Maybe I am look for consolation more than advice. I really wanted to go Turkey and I also was looking forward being part of the Fulbright community. In any case, I think I did make the right choice since I have also been working towards a job with the Park Service for many years.

Hi everyone: I just accepted a job offer with the National Park Service today. It literally was one of the hardest choices of my life. Since I have put so much time and effort into the application and into this forum I feel almost like I am giving up. I wish there was a way to able do both, but I know that's not possible. So, I decided to choose a paying job over the Fulbright. I hope I made the right decision. If anyone has some words of advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

The Full Grants from Turkey were notified about two weeks ago.
-
This is exactly what I do! God, glad I am not alone. The sad thing is that I know I probably won't get notified for a few more weeks and that checking constantly is getting me nowhere.
-
I would be more than willing. I am a ETA finalist for Turkey.
-
Just bought a travel guide book to Turkey. Hope I'm not getting ahead of myself.....
-
Oh! Your research sounds right up my alley. I am in graduate school for Heritage Management and Museum Science. If I get the ETA, I hope to have time to study the development of historic preservation in the country. What is the concentration of your PhD?
-
Congrats!!! I hope the ETA's will hear soon. What will you be researching in Turkey?
-
This makes me wonder why it takes 5-6 months for the Turkish Fulbright Commission to make their decisions. I think an effective solution would be for the whole Commission to take shots of Turkish coffee and then get everything done in one sitting.
-
Congrats! Are you doing the ETA or the Full Grant?
-
I am an ETA finalist for Turkey. Please let me know if you find anything else out. Thanks!

1) I am a grad student applying for an ETA to Turkey so, yes, we do exist AND 2)** Puts finger on nose** Not it!
-
I feel the same way! I am constantly checking my e-mail. I just keep thinking what a great feeling it's going to be when I see that e-mail in my inbox. At this point, I don't even care what it says, I just want to know. It's kind of strange how I was all fanatical and obsessed with the everything Fulbright related and now I'm in a "I just want this to be over" phase. Hmmm.....
-
I suppose I should have said it was an ETA grant to Laos. Also just saw someone got a full grant to Australia.
-
If you are counting people on this board, I believe you are correct. Some people posted a few tweets from people who accepted grants to Laos and India.
-
Congrats! So happy for you!.
-
You mean all three of us hopefully!
-
Are we allowed to travel beforehand? If I get the grant to Turkey, I would love to travel around Eastern Europe for a few weeks but wasn't sure what the protocols were on that. Anyone have any input?
-
Did you see that the actor John Lithgow was awarded a Fulbright. Crazy! I loved him in 3rd Rock From The Sun.
-
I second that. I too would love to read more essays. I find it is a great way to connect with soon-to-be Fulbrighters out there.
-
This is absolutely ridiculous that some of y'all are making accusations. The point of this thread is to be supportive of each other throughout the the Fulbright process.
-
I really wish the Grad Cafe had a "like" option for posts because some of y'alls (yes, I'm from Texas) comments are cracking me. Keep it up. Also, for now, I am living vicariously through those who have received acceptance letters. It is making the wait easier and more enjoyable knowing that others are receiving great, life changing news. P.S.- I too would enjoy reading admissions essays if anyone is willing to share (It's something else that I like to do to pass the time).
