  1. Hey, Winston. I'm the other UL Lafayette acceptee. First off, congrats! I'm pretty excited about their program - my interests line up with many of the professors' and it's an amazing part of the country to live in. My gf's family is there as well, so it'd be nice to have a home base nearby. UL Lafayette's not ranked highly at all, but I've know quite a few graduates who ended up in tenure track positions and others who work in high schools or private schools, so it's possible to get a nice job after graduation. Every prof I've ever spoken with has told me the same thing - go where the money is - so I totally get your head/heart dilemma. Keep your stomach in mind, too - you think you'll be eating as well in Bloomington?
  2. Still waiting on 8 schools. For those in the same boat, here's something to keep us occupied until at least March 13 : http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7646862/smacketology-#8212-tournament-determine-wire-greatest-character
  3. Haha, let me assure you jywayne, not everyone gets waitlisted. (I'll keep telling myself it was a bad fit).
  4. I like it so much, I used a bit of it in my s.o.p. : “I am at the moment writing a lengthy indictment against our century. When my brain begins to reel from my literary labors, I make an occasional cheese dip.” -Ignatius Riley from Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces
  5. Still waiting on 9 of 12. Best of luck to everyone - both in getting into your desired programs and keeping yourself occupied until decisions are made.
  6. Being an American lit enthusiast, I can't even begin to list the gaps in my knowledge of British lit. My big American omission, however, is Moby Dick - but I've read Blood Meridian, Sea Wolf, and Middle Passage, so that almost equates to Moby Dick.
  7. Yeah, nothing unexpected on my part. One of recommendation writers didn't send his letter in until mid-January. That combined with a pretty low GRE subject score did not bode well. Best of luck to everyone else, though - keep the faith.
  8. Reject here. I'm not sure exactly what it said; I'm out of town, and my folks called with the news. From what I gather it was a pretty standard rejection letter: lots of qualified applicants, accepting less grad students, department has less funding, etc. I wasn't expecting to get in, so I'm not torn up about it. Good luck to the two of you!
