Is it safe to assume rejection from Rutgers since I wasn't contacted yesterday? I see some acceptances and waitlists posted in the results. I wish they'd tell rejects at the same time. I thought my phone interview went well but I guess I wasn't a good enough fit. :/

Makes me nervous. I had the phone interview but haven't heard anything yet. How were you notified?

Officially rejected from Emory (as expected since visit day was last weekend)

I have a feeling this week will have a lot of news.... However, tomorrow is a holiday so we may still be waiting a little longer since a lot of schools observe the holiday. Staying patient and hopeful for this week but I'm just ready for a solid yes not just maybes.

I keep telling myself that today was a slow day because of Valentine's day. Not that everyone was celebrating it but just to be nice maybe they didn't want to ruin anyone's celebrations. Like who wants to send out a bunch of rejections on a day when so many people may already be feeling lonely, rejected or whatever? Just my theory and it makes me feel better thinking that way lol

Like incoming candiates or post-doc placement? I've seen it for other programs (maybe phds.org or something like that) but there's no option to view WGS/S programs. In terms of which is "better", again I'm no help but applied to both for different reasons. I think it's based on fit and if you "gel" with the department.

According to the results page, Rutgers notfied students this week. But maybe it'll be different this year since someone noted a later application deadline. Either way... we continue to wait.

OMG NO!!!! Okay then I just need to relax lol The next couple months will be filled with anxiety.

So I had a visit weekend for a non-soc department this past weekend. I'm mildly freaking out cause they haven't reached out to us yet. I know Emory Soc had their visit day and sent out notifications on Monday. But here I am on Wednesday still without word. What's the regular wait time after an interview/visit? I had a phone interview on Super Bowl sunday but knew that one would be 1-2 weeks.

Welcome Cody! I won't pretend to know the "right" answer but I will say that your descent should/would not count against you. Departments/programs should/would evaluate candidates based on their experiences, merit, and abilities. Your Native roots give you an edge perhaps but legally should not count against you. Discrimination is never okay and most likely won't be openly tolerated on a Sociology admissions committee. I encourage you to be your authentic self and apply to programs that fit your interests. Right, like Emory invited people to recruitment week a few weeks ago. Recruitment week has passed and I still haven't gotten my rejection letter. Though I know already. If I wasn't on this board I would still think I was being considered though.

Applications Deadline- Dec 15th ish? or maybe it was the Jan 1 Acceptance Notification was 2/11 last year. So we should hear back next week hopefully.

Feeling weird that I'm the only one who has heard from Rutgers. But I guess since profs are reaching out, it's likely that the results will be scattered.

Yea! Rejected from all 5 programs last year and this year 2 interviews (& 2 rejections) so far. Things are looking up. Guess it was meant for me to be with family this year.

Got an email form a prof at Rutgers today... I'm a finalist! Requested a skype or phone interview this week. Exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This may sound slightly silly of me but I was told by someone (with a PhD) that it doesn't matter where you go or even what your degree is in... As long as you get into a program and get your PhD, you will always have that doctoral education. I think the rank of your school is more important based on what you want to do with your doctorate. For me I didn't apply only based on ranking but by location and specialties. So I applied to some lower ranked schools but I'm just trying to get in -- anywhere! It's not like college where I was accepted to every school we apply to. I've already been rejected by PhD programs last year, I'm just trying to make it this year.
