I'm not the most patient person. I find myself checking these boards all day every day. I'm grateful for my interview in February but the month long wait makes me even more antsy. Not to mention not hearing from anyone else all month. I know I need to chill but ahhhh!!! Here's hoping that your monday is less anxious than mine.

Interview questions you should ask
wmnshlthsoc replied to GingerbreadLatte's topic in Psychology Forum
I recently read something like this about job interviews but I think it may still apply: 1- If I'm not accepted, what would the reason be? --- Forces them to either tell you how are awesome you are or that you still lack some needed experience. 2- What excites you most about the department? --- Gives you a feel of the departments' energy. If they seem less than thrilled it may be a clue to the vibe of the department. -
Ha! You aren't alone. I make sure I answer every call from every unknown or out of state #... I check email and the forum frantically. I may be psycho but at least I'll know exactly when something is going on.

Congrats everyone who was invited to the visitation weekend. I was not invited but will be on campus for another department's visitation weekend at the same time. Best of luck!!! Let the offers come in!

I think Emory is going to be a stretch for me anyway. The director was apprehensive about me (re)applying this year with my GRE scores not getting better after taking an expensive course and the exam a 2nd time. I'm not great with exams but the rest of my credentials (including my MA) can kind of balance that out. I'm hoping they'll take a chance on someone with lower scores but I'd understand if they don't.

A lot more results posted in other threads than here... Seen ones for visit days and/or acceptances for Rice, OSU, Notre Dame and Minnesota... None of my schools but congrats to everyone who is getting some great news!

Same here! Last year the notification went out on 1/10 for visit day so they are a bit behind. I have heard from another emory program with visit weekend happening 2/7-9. So if Sociology has something similar that would be nice.

Congrats!!! Based on last years dates some schools are a little behind. I searched specifically for programs I'm interested in but to get an idea. Fall 2012 Notification Boston U 2/20- No Visit Emory 1/10 -Visit Day notification Rutgers 2/1- Phone Interview

I'm in a similar boat. We are waiting on my offer so we can settle in a new home but my partner is applying to jobs everywhere I've applied. It will just be awful if she gets a job in one place and I'm accepted elsewhere. We'll see.

Best Schools For Race, Sexualityand Gender
wmnshlthsoc replied to BlkGrlSoc's topic in Sociology Forum
Hmm because this is my field I would suggest Rutgers University, Washington University in St. Louis and Emory University. -
Thank you! I will keep my fingers crossed for Emory Soc too but Emory WGSS is my top choice so this is awesome news.

Some start as early as this month some won't be until late feb/early march. It's all quite nerve wracking.

May be time to ask someone else to submit just int case. then his letter will just be a bonus

I got a similar email as well from a program last week (right before my advisor submitted her letter). For some programs they'll review your application without the letter because they understand that it's not totally in your control. But for other programs they won't review your letter at all until all materials are submitted. So to answer your question, I think it depends on the committee but it's not a bad thing at all.
