  1. What you're talking about brings to mind RISD, which is on College Hill in PVD and is known for its student community. My impression of SAIC in Chicago is that it's kind of like any school in NY. You don't necessarily live near the school because the downtown location isn't where students would live-- so, how involved you are in it as a student community is up to the individual.
  2. Has anyone else gotten any phone calls in painting?
  3. Any news on mfa painting?
  4. How did everyones interview go?! It's so nervewracking because you think the waiting game will start to get easier afterwards but it doesn't. It's also so hard to read those things that all you can do is analyze moments and things you said or didn't
  5. Oh I totally get it- I quoted your message but that was just a general comment toward the several comments from other people that preceded it
  6. You know, I understand where you're coming from. Artists spend a lot of time alone and/or in their heads. When it comes to any sort of external evaluation or validation, we can't help but stress- it seems inborn into the way many of us work. But this message board is a small fraction of those in total who apply and get in-- and don't. If you really want to learn and improve- there are countless contemporary peers whose work is so readily accessible online as well as thousands of years of visual history. To compare and be compared here seems like a very myopic way of looking at your art and portfolio. It does provide context, but I would say that it's not very constructive. At the the same time, I think one should resist hounding on another user for website details-- you know, there's a thread explicitly for that and if it hasnt been shared yet it hasnt for a reason. In this age, everything is recorded on the Internet and there's a reason we all have anonymous usernames.
  7. I agree with you, I see plenty of beauty. And, I would argue that you aren't a cave man; these studies develop and train a different type of thought process. The questions you raise by bringing up the moment and rawness are spoken from a painterly perspective. Painterliness is next to godliness in my opinion... And while these aren't my favorite, I learn something from them and I think that an open mind is important for anyone in an MFA program.
  8. I believe that you're guaranteed an interview- it really is a good opportunity if your style/concept aligns w. saic's.
  9. So included in the interview request letter I received for painting, SAIC also included a generic form, which also listed where/when the interviews for the other departments would be taking place. The inclusion of that letter leads me to believe that SAIC may have sent out all the letters because it would seem presumptuous to send out those interview dates without even notifying the candidates of those respective programs. This was also about a week ago and the painting dept is the largest, with two days of interviews, while other departments have one. I hope this is helpful!
  10. Hey your stuff is some of my favorite that I've seen on this forum!
