  1. Ok I have to decide between two admits and I have no idea right now. So I have the following two admits: ADMIT A prestigious, large state university consistently ranked in top 20s in chemistry( and I am not talking about USnews, its stuff like NSF funding etc) but it has only 3 faculty in my area of interest and Professor A1's work interests me. Professor A1 is a very well known professor but nearing retirement. On emailing him he said that he might take new students this year but wasnot sure. So its like a 50/50. But the other two prof I would definitely not like working at all. ADMIT B Upcoming private univ ranked in 50-70 in chemistry(again excluding USnews). It has about 5-7 professors in my field but again there is only one professor B1 that I would like to work with. But Professor B1 is definitely taking new students this year. Also Professor B1 is a superstar of his field. I am an international student so I havenot visited either of the places so I cannot say anything about the environments. So I am torn between which one to go for. I am definitely going to pursue a career in academia and I would like to go to a place/advisor which would be beneficial for my future career. I would love to hear everyone's opinions. Also I hope there is enough information in the post to give an opinion. If not please let me know. Thanks! P.S please ignore mistakes in grammar and spelling
  2. Ah!! u r interested in pure natural product synthesis.........ok I am sorry I misunderstood, then I guess Boston Univ is the best choice
  3. I am surprised that you decided on Boston University. I am interested in the same field and i had offers from both boston univ and boston college but i decided on BC as I think it has got a stronger department.
  4. Hi Cluelessgrad,

I am an Org Synt student too. May we make friend?

  5. I checked on the results search page......another international student has heard from TAMU regarding admit......Since I havenot heard anything from them yet I guess its a reject for me
  6. Oh! thats good to know......atleast I am not the only one....I called up the grad office and they said they are still reviewing applications for international students and will let them know by end of this month so i guess nothing left to do but wait
  7. A thread for synthetic organic chemistry....thats good!! I am an international student and till now Accepted: Penn state, Boston University, Oregon state Still waiting to hear from: MIT, Scripps, TAMU, Boston College I would be meeting up with a professor at BU at the ACS meeting in san francisco in march........amyone else coming to the ACS meeting?
  8. Has anyone heard from TAMU or boston college.......I called up TAMu and they said that decisions are still being made As far as boston college is concerned they said that my application is still under review though they had a Jan 2 deadline....does that mean i have been waitlisted?
  9. Ok here is mine.........On my dream school's SOP I accidentally put another school's name in the final sentence........no wonder I havent heard from them yet
  10. Hi everyone, I am thinking of applying for fall 2010 for Phd in organic chemistry. My dream school is MIT. I was wondering if it is possible to get into MIT without any published papers for an international student. I do have a research experience of 2 years in my home university but no publications yet. Do you think I am being foolish aiming for MIT? Ok that was a bit too general. Apart from the non-existent publications I have fairly good grades (nothing too exceptional I have to say) but strong letters of recommendation. I have an undergrad degree in physics and a masters in chemical research and now I want to do a PhD in chemistry. Hope this helps!!!
  11. Hello, thanks for the reply. What do you think about the choice if schools? Is the aid scene good n the universities I have chosen?
