Chem Grad Student

I am thinking about going to Uni. of Houston for my PhD this fall. Can anyone inform me about the life in Houston this year? What are the on- or off-campus options for PhD students at UH? How much do the rents cost? Where in the city would you recommend me to live (I have not a car)? When should I apply for accommodation? Where can I find a roommate if I need one? How much money can be enough for all expenses (including rent, food, gas, etc.) on a monthly base? Many thanks in advance

One Prof give me an advice that I should choose a Department where I feel interested in research of three Profs or at least 2 Profs. It meant that I will be more safe at this Program. However In your case, you should find more information about the Profs and his group at the first school, especially the relationship between he and his students,... (from some of his students, or some students in this department,.....). If the information is positive, you should go the first school. And if you get some bad new, you can choose the second one.
