  1. Also: that panel does sound interesting. If I'm still in town, I'll check it out.
  2. 1 of 4 makes me feel pretty good, but 1 of however many Columbia took wouldn't have sucked (still slightly bitter about that rejection). CUNY's funding package is, from all I've heard (from people on here and professors at Queens College, where I did my undergrad, who were studying at the GC), horrendous. I guess they can get away with it because of the awesome faculty there. Damn them. Either way, both Rutgers and CUNY are awesome programs - can't go wrong with any of the three, actually, since Amherst isn't anything to sneeze at. Hooray for choices!
  3. Ah, what panel is it, anyway? Not sure if I'm staying in Rochester overnight yet (definitely there Friday, most likely Thursday, up in the air thereafter), but who knows. I'll keep my fingers crossed that someone bows out of the Rutgers race for your sake! You're leaning there over CUNY if you have your druthers, right? &&thanks! They take four people now, from what I'm told (they used to take 6 people @ 15k each, then changed so they now take 4 @ 20k... it works out, I guess). I'm waiting to hear from another few schools (I applied to entirely too many programs, but I guess spreading the seeds wide and far is never a bad idea), but I'm leaning heavily towards SB as of now. Visiting day is next week, and I can't wait.
  4. I'm presenting on Friday (panel 9.18, 4:45-6:15, if anyone's around), but which panel are you on? I'll try and swing by if I'm still in Rochester. And only since I've been following all the damn threads I can - any word on the Rutgers wait list for you?
  5. Crystalleem, I'm sending you a DM in a minute regarding that.
  6. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one. Connecticut's mighty pretty in the spring.
  7. Ah, well perhaps they're going by field. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
  8. Crystalleem: My focus is postbellum Southern lit, modernism, and cognitive/narrative studies.
  9. I got the same email as Jbarks (congrats, by the way!) regarding recommendation for TA position and nomination for the Excellence Fellowship.
  10. I'll jump on board and agree with TripWillis and StatelyPlump and athousandlemmings (and others, if I've missed 'em) with the immense relief of getting a second acceptance. Granted, the financial package offered with the second acceptance wasn't nearly as awesome as the first (Stony Brook offered me an additional fellowship in addition to the stipend package), but it feels great to know that two programs think I'm at least somewhat capable of doing the adult scholarly thing.
  11. Got a wait-list letter from the fine folks at Knoxville as well. Better than nothing, though.
  12. Thanks, jma! I'm into post-1865 American lit, narrative studies, and cognitive-type stuff (trauma, affect).
  13. Hey folks. I spoke to Leanne @ UT, asking about my status after I saw the UTK rejection on here. The admissions committee went through the first round and sent out rejection letters, but they're still going through more rounds before sending acceptances. I know I didn't get a rejection letter (I asked), but we'll see what happens in the coming weeks!
  14. No details on how many spots, just that competition was "especially stiff" this year... I know they let in four folks last year, though, after giving their PhD students a raise at the beginning of the last academic year (again, info from a friend in the program). @fedup: Thanks! Best of luck.
  15. I posted the SB acceptance (: Got a letter in the mail from them. It was dated February 2. Thanks for the congrats! It's the first acceptance I got (after a rejection from Duke and a wait list from Emory), but I'm waiting to hear back from a bunch of programs - I'm definitely excited about SB, though! A good friend of mine is in their program and she raves about it. Best of luck to the others!
