  1. That's really great!! I was going to apply there but it really wasn't a great fit for me . . . But I know what you mean about UConn - when that "wait listed " posted my heart sank a tad further
  2. Well I just called the grad school and they looked up my application - which still says no decision has been made. Maybe I've been wait listed? Or is "wait listed" a decision in itself???
  3. Well as there are two "accepted via email" on the survey, I expect a rejection from UConn via snail mail any day now - apparently that is how they do things . . . Maine, here I come.
  4. Well I'm guessing that the best I can hope for from UConn is a "wait list" - which is maybe a Higher Power reminding me that UMaine is probably a better program for me - they accepted me in less than two weeks so they must really want me and there's a lot to be said for that. Heck I only applied to the two programs so I batted .500, right ?
  5. May I ask what your special area of interest is? Hopefully it isn't the same as mine
  6. Now I'm really confused - spoke with the History Dept at UConn and was told that absolutely NO decisions had been sent out; that there was one more adcom meeting scheduled for early next week . . .she sounded like she knew what she was talking about - strange . . .
  7. Survey shows first acceptance to UCONN PHD in History. I called the Grad School and they looked at my status: "no decision". I have an acceptance to UMaine, which is a great program for me, but won't know about funding until mid-April. The waiting is killing me: I feel paralyzed - and I need to wrap up my MA thesis!! AGH!!!!!
  8. MediaMom - guaranteed loans automatically go into deferral as long as you're in school at least half-time. But they are quite glad to take your money whenever you'd like to give it to them
  9. Interesting but I'm not entirely sure it makes sense. What would a school have to gain except a cohort full of the weakest applicants who applied? Those at the top of the list would have had the strongest applications - and they would certainly have applied to multiple great schools - perhaps just as likely to reject as to accept. Im waiting on a "trickle" school: there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it's methods. But I really suspect there's an "unofficial" wait list which gets offers from the top down. Who knows though.
  10. I have one acceptance but won't know about funding until MID-APRIL - and it really is not where I want to go. There are no results whatsoever for this year for my first choice school - previous years accepts and regects are spread all over the place - from the end of Feb to the middle of April. I just have to find some way to stop obsessing over this and finish my Masters Thesis or I won't be going anywhere. This has to be the most effective diet in history, but my hair is starting to fall out which isn't really a great side effect. Just want this to be over.
  11. One of the three professors who had agreed to recommend me had a stroke before he could submit his letter. I had no way of knowing what had happened as I'm on extended enrollment finishing my thesis - not on campus. No answers to my emails. What a nightmare
  12. >Artofdescribing: oh can I identify with that. Here I sit worrying about a doctorate that I can't start if I don't finish my MA thesis!
  13. I only applied to two schools for my PhD in History: and both apps made it in just under the wire. One deadline was Jan 15 and I received the acceptance letter Feb 8. The other school's deadline was Jan 1 - my first choice. Since I hadn't heard from them, today I called the Grad School office and was told that my application had gone to the department for evaluation even though it had been missing my undergraduate official transcript. All they had received was the unofficial transcript I uploaded as required. Apparently the Committee doesn't require official transcripts but the Graduate School Dean - who has to approve all acceptances, does. So I was told that I wouldn't hear anything until they received the missing transcript -which I ordered (again) today. "Rush". I am hoping I didn't spend $35 to receive a rejection. But if I hadn't called, I guess I never would have known: the online status of my app was "complete".
  14. Actually I would hate to be hanging since I was 35;) Finishing up an MA in history. Applied to only two schools for my PhD - am in at UMaine and still waiting for UConn. Either school will be good for me - I'm a 19th century New Englandist - but moving to Maine was never high on my list of priorities.
