Oh, here it is. Rejected. Has anyone ever heard of a bio anthropologist ever been awarded a PGS-D?
-
Have any direct applicants in the US got their letters? I am dying here.
-
Got my PGS-D rejection today in NY. Dated March 19th, like the others. Does anyone know if this is an outright rejection and I have no chance of finding out later in June that bc of extra monies that I can get it?

Ancient CS Grad - can you suggest good neighborhoods in Brooklyn. I have heard some of the train lines to Brooklyn are less reliable (stop earlier at night/ constant construction) - do you know which lines would be good to live near? thx

that's so strange - i was only looking at one box as well! Maybe the route makes it more expensive from some reason?? $1800 is not terrible considering you would spend half of that on a new bed! i'll have to try the site again and see if i get the same result. -

Thanks for the info - i suppose that makes sense! Yeah, I looked up U-Haul Prices to NY and it would be minimum $3000. I think I will be invite many ppl to come and stay and bring part of my things each time! -
Thanks for the padmapper suggestion... it's a good site. I have heard Astoria is a good place to commute to the Upper East Side from, but do you know anything about Brooklyn train lines?

U-Haul seems to be pretty pricy. Were you loooking at the trucks you drive yourself or just a shipping container? -

On another note: Can any Canadians suggest shipping (cheap) shipping companies? I am moving from Calgary to NYC in August.... 3800km of fun! -
Hello all, i have been accepted to CUNY for the fall and will prob be living in Brooklyn. I am looking for advice on what areas to live in or what train lines to live near (ones that don't stop early/ have a ton of construction constantly). Also, what kind of travel times am i looking at to get to the upper east side? Thanks!

It's decided... I'm going to CUNY!!! Did anyone else on here get accepted to the NYCEP program?

I'm not sure if you will have already seen this but here is a pretty good list of arky field schools: http://www.shovelbum...m_sobi2&Itemid. If you are looking for something more specific try googling - when i was looking for a paleoanth field school i googled just that and found lots of info. Field schools can be expensive but if you stay in the US then it shouldn't be more then $1-2000, I went to the Caribbean for 5 weeks for $5000, but that was a beach vacay/ arky field school in one. Both of the field schools that i have been on accepted students from other schools and i think that is fairly typical. As for entry level positions - i am from Alberta, Canada and huge international companies like Golder hire recent grads to do CRM field work all the time. See if they have anything in your area?

Congrats on the acceptance elsewhere! I wish I was going with a solid backup! ... perhaps I wouldn't be so nervous. Funding is an issue for internationals at CUNY - but i won't know until they make an offer! I argee that the main difference is the name recognition but that's not really an issue for me - both far exceed my undergrad school in that category!

I was told I may meet some NYU profs at a NYCEP function that is happening while I am there, so that would be good. I hope we are still considered for both! NYU is my top choice over CUNY due mostly to funding - I am Canadian (Western Canada) and many school have less funding for international student but not NYU. CUNY is a great program with great faculty so if they can muster up some reasonable funding than they are definitely tied with NYU for my top choice. What about you? Is NYU your top choice?

Same deal for me... I had a phone interview as well and they seem really interested. I am not entirely sure what to expect! I am going next wknd though - they said there are 4-5 people coming for each of the 2 wknds, and local students visited last friday so it is a fairly small pool but who knows how many spots they have available!? Also, any word for any bioanth ppl at NYU? The acceptances going up are worrisome...
