  1. hey, has anyone come across a way to snoop and find pdfs of old country-specific handbooks online or anything?
  2. Hey everyone- I have mostly disappeared from this forum since I got accepted; I've been completely slammed with work finishing my masters! But I looked at the spreadsheet today, and I saw there are many more of you who have been accepted to programs in Eastern Europe! Just a reminder that I have made a facebook group for fulbrighters who will be in the region next year...called "Fulbright Eastern Europe 2012-2013!" You should all join! Congrats to everyone who got a fellowship, and to those of you who didn't, you are still awesome.
  3. I know Romania, Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary have heard...
  4. just FYI Romania is neither slavic nor former soviet. ;-)
  5. Budapest is an amazing city! As I said before, I am going to be 4 hours away by train in Romania. We should exchange emails!

  11. oh man I wish I had some more information about romania. I know we are past the date that they have heard in the last few years, but that's it...
  12. they definitely did this for germany, so I guess its how it goes...
  13. It *might* involve mapping, but its more systemic and regime analysis. If nothing else, I would be surprised if I would have access to ArcGIS there.
  14. lol...assuming I get the fulbright!
  15. As a fellow GIS nerd (graduating with my masters in urban planning in 27 days!) I love you.
  16. Wow, very very cool. I will be in Timisoara if I get the grant, with some short trips to Iasi and a few other cities. I proposed to study the process of urban development in the regional centers (i.e. not bucharest) in order to identify the specific influences that cause Romanian towns to grow the way they do, and (hopefully!) identify more opportunities for citizen involvement in the development process.
  17. Hi Andrew- welcome to the craziness that is this forum. I am very interested in grants to ukraine, since I am a finalist for Romania, right next door :-) Where would you be going? What is your topic?
  18. At the same time, this is a result that for many of us, will determine the direction of our lives...possibly forever. I think we can be justified in one quick phone call, especially because it seems she IS able to give us some information.
  19. fwiw, this isn't much different than it was for peace corps

  23. She seemed a bit annoyed, and asked me who told me she might have more information (I said I saw it on a message board...), but then answered my question pleasantly enough. I had an aversion to bothering her as well, but it is her job, and to be frank, this has been bothering me for weeks and interfering with my work.
  24. just talked to rachel H. She said probably not for a week or so for Romania...
  25. wow, so this is telling me that it is probably worth it to call! I guess calling her isn't going to affect the outcome at this point, eh?
