Auzi-ma Romania! Astept raspunsul meu, si eu devin nebun! Hai, spune-ma!
-
Well, seeing as I'm Jewish, I guess I'm screwed ;-)
-
oh man, I TOTALLY applied to the wrong country
-
will this be the week?
-
I didn't do this b/c we really don't have the data to make any kind of analysis. Also, my bet is that there is no real pattern in terms of day of the week over multiple years.
-
ok, so I'm starting to get really on edge. Total radio silence about fulbright romania, and I'm starting to think I really need to be applying for jobs. What do y'all think? Should I contact my school advisor, or Holskin, or will that only annoy people?
-
I can't seem to find that page. Is it a group?
-
according to twitter, a lot of fulbright people in europe are at a conference in Berlin right now...which may delay things?

I get the sense that the notifications have been going out in the morning, from the people who have heard back and posted here.
-
it hasn't been transparent _at all_ but to me that means there is no utility in calling
-
ok guys, so this is INSANELY nerdy, but I also did some statistical calculations on notification times. Taking the data from 2010 and 2011 applicants who had response dates recorded on our spreadsheet, I looked at the mean date of notification, the standard deviation (how far, on average, the notification dates are from the mean date), the earliest and latest dates, and the skew for the dataset (indicates whether an outlier or a concentration of responses on the low or high end pull the mean in one direction or another...a negative skew indicates that it is likely that dates past the mean are more likely to cluster closer to the mean than those before, and vice versa). I did an overall analysis, and disaggregated by region. You can find my results here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArDtL6Kx8D_HdFBERXQxX08zX0FlSXFFQUo0ZzRrRFE#gid=0

if you are doing jewish community work in greece next year and I'm in romania, you should expect a visitor ;-)

to be fair, even with the regression, he he, it is a funny concept :-) I wish we had a bigger sample size! Unfortunately, to have a data set where we could assume a normal distribution, we would need 25-30 YEARS of data from each country! (assuming that everyone in each country would hear the same day). This model also assumes that the release dates are interrelated, which we know they aren't :-/ But how great would it be to see the ordering and say "ok, suchandsuch a country got their results yesterday, so I should get mine next!"
-
I almost feel like I should start taking bets on who is going to hear back next week...will it be France? India? Cambodia? Romania? Who wants to guess on odds?
-
Hey caramel08girl, you in A2? Graduating in April with an MUP and an MPP from umich here!

My understanding (as a soon-to-be-applicant to PhD programs myself) is that the research proposal/interests is a big part of your application, and taken very seriously. I think you should think seriously about why you want to do this degree if you don't know specifically what your interests in the field are, as the PhD is primarily an academic degree, designed around and training for research. I know the masters is not funded, but that may be what you need, if your goal is to be a practitioner. There are also a ton of funding opportunities out there. I am just finishing up a Masters in Public Policy and a Masters in Urban Planning myself, and I got over half my tuition paid through various fellowships. You should maybe talk to a professor or academic advisor at a school you're interested in (they *should* be happy to talk to you, otherwise, don't go there), and ask them about it

santorum is not going to be president. This I must believe.
-
you know, when I was a PCV, I was surprised at the diversity of political views of my colleagues.
-
yup. And yeah, getting old for sure. I'm 29. I should really be over this kind of s*** by now, but apparently I'm not.
-
where are you waiting to hear from again?
-
I'm in the same boat with Romania - only one previous award listed on the spreadsheet, and it was an ETA (I'm waiting to hear about a full grant!)...that date was the 14th. I was hopeful I would hear this week, but as Thursday drags on (it is already 6 PM in Romania right now), I'm less and less hopeful.
-
I'm sick of the waiting game. Lets play hungry, hungry hippos.
-
where did you find the info about Germany and Taiwan ETAs?
-
has anyone else been able to find actual amounts? I've been snooping around trying to find them for Romania, but can't seem to dig any up anywhere.
