Kansas State University

Hey thanks for responding! I just got into K-State with full funding for fall 2013 enrollment. It is the only school I have heard back from, so no need to finalize a decision yet, but I'm very much interested in the program. My research interests focus on late 20th-century American Literature, cultural studies, and Don DeLillo. So far all the professors I have been in contact with have been very welcoming and K-State seems like a great fit for the research I hope to do. My biggest concern is, as you mentioned, the fact that K-State is not a "big name" school. My ultimate goal is a PhD so placement after the MA is very important to me. I have spoken to the DGS about this and it seems K-State's MA graduates have gone on to some top-notch PhD programs. However, the placement data I was provided with wasn't very specific and the placement data on K-State's website hasn't been updated in a few years. Did you proceed to a doctoral program after you graduated? How was the placement rate into PhD programs for your graduating cohort? I'm sure I will have many more questions about K-State once I hear back from other schools, but preparation for PhD programs is definitely what I am most curious about right now. -
0% Confidence of Acceptance
nhswrestle replied to TripWillis's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
x2. I was shut out last year. Regardless, this year I will be presenting at three academic conferences, two on a topic related to my proposed area of graduate research. I've also been reading, writing, brainstorming ideas for conference papers/journal articles, networking, etc. Not only has this allowed me to stay active in academia despite no longer being a student, it has allowed me to revamp my CV and gain a better understanding of my research area. It has also, hopefully, made me a more attractive candidate for graduate study. -
Is anybody currently in the K-State M.A. in English program? Any other applicants? Anyone with information to pass on about this program?

Sorry to hear about the rejections. I too have been implicitly rejected from Buffalo, Duke Lit as well. I'm really hoping Georgetown hits us with some good news. -

If you don't mind me asking, what schools did you apply to? What are the 4 "implicit" rejections? -

Fall 2013 English Lit Applicants
nhswrestle replied to harvardlonghorn's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I called the English Dept. last week to make sure they received my materials. The graduate office was still sorting applications and hadn't begun the review process yet. Thanks for all those who responded to my question. I will not be contacting programs about sending an updated CV. Stephanie's "thirsty" comment swayed me. -

Question: I just had a paper accepted for the upcoming ALA conference directly related to my proposed field of research. Is this something worth notifying my prospective programs about? -

Just googled this and it looks pretty awesome. Is the narrative first-person stream of conscious? -

How should one respond to an acceptance e-mail/phone call? Do you just say something along the lines of "Thank you. I'm honored. And I'll let you know my decision after I hear back from my other schools?" -
