  1. @cairo: The website says there is 10% tuition scholarship for few people based on merit. There is also RA-ship, but I doubt it will be even close to cover Columbia's cost. Plus, it's NYC, so I imagine the rent is going to be ridiculous too. From jsclar, terminal master's programs are Columbia's cash cow. @dennison: Since their program is so academic, I suspect their ideal candidate is someone who is at similar level to a PhD applicant but without much specific research plans.
  2. I would have to eat only McMuffins for 9 months if they don't give me more money...
  3. Anyone who got offers from Chicago MAPSS or CIR and do not plan to attend, please reject their offers as soon as you can! Please, please, please.
  4. Thank for you feedbacks! I just sent my email to Ms. Pollack asking for more money... Hope it works out! P.S. If anyone reading this isn't considering Chicago's MA as future prospect, please reject their offer as soon as you can. Thanks!
  5. I got into UChicago's CIR masters! Even though it's not PhD, I am very happy! I really hope I can go! edit: grammar
  6. I was offered a spot in UChicago's CIR Masters with 1/3 scholarship. Although I am definitely grateful and strongly want to attend, it would be very difficult for me to fund my studies there. I would have to live in my car parked outside the university. I am not kidding. I want to send them an email asking for more money. Sure, they said the scholarship is merit-based, but I have lots of updates on my CV since my application in November. For example, admission to PBK, completed honors thesis, TAship for a class, etc. How should I approach this matter to them? Would my reasons asking for reconsideration of merit scholarship be sufficient?
  7. So I see that some people got their mass emails from Chicago... I am waiting for my rejection as well. Would the consolation masters be coming out around this time as well?
  8. I'm finishing my undergrad in 3 years and straight through at the same time! All rejections so far... haha I guess I overestimated myself. :/ Nevertheless, I think this is a humbling experience for me. I could only imagine how cocky I would be if I got into PhD after 3 years of college.
  9. I sincerely thank jsclar for bringing up Columbia's QMSS. None of my applications worked out this cycle and QMSS deadline is April 1! (not sure if joke... lol) I am DEFINITELY applying! Could someone please tell me what other master's program is still accepting applications? edit: grammar
  10. Hi everyone. I just registered after months or lurking. None of my applications worked out this cycle... Just preparing a BA/MA application at my home institution. I'm probably out for Harvard, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for those consolation masters from NYU and Chicago! Also thinking about applying to Columbia's QMSS. They're all crazy expensive, but it looks like I don't have much choice. Or... I could go join the Army and get some overseas experience in Syria. (I jest, good sirs.)
