  1. Good god... another UCLA admit on the board...
  2. Were you given fellowship and/or "full funding"? I am IR myself, and I am beginning to lose hope at this point...
  3. For those who got into UCLA, what was your subfield?
  4. I guess that's why most programs give out rejections much later than acceptances... How considerate of them.
  5. In regards to MA in application, I asked a grad program coordinator regarding applicants having MA: "Many students who apply have completed an MA in public policy, history, international relations, ethnic studies and sometimes political science. Since we do not require students to have a specific background in Political Science or IR, we do receive applications from students with a wide-array of degrees. The advantage lies in the types of academic work and research opportunities that students have access to in a graduate program, as opposed to those available to undergraduates. I would not let this, however, keep you from applying to the program, as the committee considers many other areas of your application." Hope this is helpful.
  6. You only get to keep one too. And remember that a rejection at one place isn't much of an indicator at another place. I know a guy who got into Yale after a rejection from Maryland.
  7. Oh my... this is the longest two weeks of my life... Especially since I plan to give up after this cycle.
  8. I was rejected across the board last year, and I've got to say that looking back on my previous application, it was just embarrassingly bad. I'm sure MAPSS can help you to get into much better places next year (if you decide to enroll). Looking at their PhD placement record, I'd think it's better than taking a second-rate program (in your mind) just because you got in this year.
  9. I think it was Yesenia who answered, and I didn't ask about my decision. I asked, "have all the admission decisions been made?" to which she replied the latter. I don't know about the email acceptances since they were confirmed by users here, but I think the phone acceptances are trolls at this point since when I pressed further asking if they give out admission over the phone, she said they don't give out information like that over the phone. I'm interpreting that as unless the phone calls were by individual faculty, the acceptances this morning are trolls. Edit: grammar
  10. It's actually not as cash-cow as Columbia, NYU, etc. "consolation MA" since they give tuition scholarships and travel reimbursement for visit days.
  11. I got one last year as part of the rejection package... I believe it was around first couple days of March. I think Chicago doesn't give out official rejections until near then because they send some "very close" applications to CIR/MAPSS for another review. Edit: I just called UCLA, and they said the "admission decisions has not yet been made" and will make final decisions by "mid-February." This is vagueness is killing me as "admission decisions" also include rejections which goes out weeks after admissions. I don't know what more I expected to get when I decided to call. Bad life choice on my part.
  12. This waiting for UCLA is slowly draining my life away...
  13. According to the latest Chicago post, if you haven't heard back yet, then you are rejected.
  14. Any brave soul here willing to take one for the team and call UCLA?
  15. If you can make an university log-in account and logged in, does that mean you're admitted?
  16. Would it be unreasonable to expect UCLA next week? It seems like their admissions get sent out early 5th week of the year... I'd like to think UCI does the similar given their record... My expectation is too damn high!
  17. >stanford's campus (t'was... beautiful T.T) >harvard's resources >ucla's city (nice part of LA) + program (no qual!) >any professor who will take likes me (best professors don't usually make best advisors)
  18. Based on my experience it is my love to hate that gets me going.
  19. I got an email from UCLA graduate advisor. I almost had a heart attack. "Your application has been marked complete" ... way to troll UCLA...
  20. Same here!
  21. Which program was Jan. 24?
  22. Source?
  23. Thank! I really hope I get in... Stanford has been my dream school since forever ago! Apparently, my training in PoliSci doesn't align with that of Stanford, so it's next to impossible for me to go to Stanford for PhD...
