I second this! So excited for everybody and their next steps!
-
Agreed! There are two medical schools the whole region and very few PhD programs as well. It's crazy given the caliber of the major public universities and the resources available in Seattle and Portland.
-
Thanks, KingScilla & CulturalAnth - it really is a nerve-wracking process and I am soooo ready for it to be over! Will let you know how it turns and best of luck to you and your SO, KingScilla!

Yayyy $$$!! Well done!

Boy, am I happy to see this thread - it means major admissions decisions are FINALLY happening! I've been accepted to two programs, rejected from two, and haven't heard from the last three (though I imagine Chicago is a rejection, I just haven't received it yet). The wrench in my machinery is that I am trying to coordinate my decision making with that of my SO, who is still waiting on medical school decisions. I'm heading up to Brown this week to check out the campus and really, the only school I would have considered over it was Harvard but alas... My SO is currently wait-listed at Brown, but I think he has a fairly high chance of getting in off of the wait-list given what we know about the process there. The only real downside is that we will continue to be across the country from all of our friends and family in the Pacific Northwest for the foreseeable future. A U. of Washington medical school acceptance could be a game changer for him (he has yet to hear back), but staying in the same place is a huge priority for us and I just don't see myself choosing an unfunded MA program over a fully funded PhD program from such an amazing school.

The MA program I was accepted to also wanted to be notified before April 15. Wonder why that is...
-
Thanks, Forsaken! I'm really happy with how this season has played out thus far. Congratulations to you on your acceptances, as well! as a UW alum, I'm biased, but they have amazing resources for research
-
Harvard rejection showed up on the website today, without any notification via email. Disappointed as I legitimately thought it was the best fit for my research interests, but it is Harvard. At least the wait is over!
-
Thanks, Sarab. I was beginning to be turned off by the cost of living in New York City, anyway...I just feel glad to have closure and be done with the waiting with them. Until I saw the slew of rejection notices that were just posted for Harvard... the fun never ends
-
And mine, looks like the next batch is out.
-
I didn't receive anything from them either, but I'm guessing that they're just sending out rejections in waves.
-
Congratulations! That's a big deal and you should be so proud
-
It is my understanding that they only send results via snail mail and since they just began popping up recently, we should probably hear back this week.
-
Sorry about the bad news everyone - there is definitely an increase in activity this week. I noticed that Harvard has already started sending out USPC notifications...hello, nerves.
-
Congrats to all the recent acceptances!!! This week is already starting off with a bang

Just saw this on the results page: "I have called the [Chicago] anthropology department this morning. She said that all the accepted and wait-listed PhD candidates were notified. If you are a MA student with an anthropology degree, that means you are rejected. If you are a BA student or MA student with other degrees, you are now under the MAPSS's review (the Master program). The Master program may notify you next week about your status. Hope that helps." I'm gonna go ahead and call that a rejection as I don't plan on considering the Master's program. Just send me a real rejection letter so I can stop feeling in limbo, Chicago!

Eek, looks like UCLA sent out a slew of rejections at once. I sort of wish the other schools would do that as well - it's kind of irritating when a program rejects a couple of people and the rest are waiting on bated breath...keep your chins up, guys, there's a light at the end of the tunnel!
-
Congratulations to the acceptances!!! Showin' the love on Valentine's Day, nice
-
Blah, still in the dark about NYU and Boston - someone put me out of my misery!
-
If we don't get news today, it's going to be the longest weekend ever...

magiaepasta, on 12 Feb 2014 - 11:40 AM, said: I am interested in the construction of memory and identity in Middle Eastern immigrants and refugees who live in Europe and negotiating these identities with those of the native populations. There were a number of faculty members with whom I saw shared interests, but I ended up being mostly in communication with Lina Fruzzetti, though I don't know who has been assigned as my advisor.

I have a B.A. in an unrelated humanities field and have taken exactly one anthropology course in my academic career. Though I had a strong academic record (magna cum laude, PBK, lots of research experience in my field), needless to say, I felt like a total outsider and had mentally prepared myself for rejections across the board. Imagine my surprise when I got the happy call from Brown. My guess is it really comes down to the fit of your research interests with several members of the faculty in the department above all else. Even with that, I agree that it's a total crap shoot. Sorry to hear about your rejection, but I do think persistence seems to be the key to all of this so keep your head up!

Eek, an NYU acceptance - let the compulsive phone checking begin...
-
Congratulations on the acceptances, Daykid and Sarab! Stick with it guys, remember, we only need one!

I hear really great things about the SOAS program! Sorry to hear about Boston. Did you just get an email from them? I also applied but haven't heard a peep...
