I've heard that people who have been awarded the Javits only have until April 6 to accept/decline. So for people in the social sciences who have been awarded a Javits--if the NSF results don't come out before April 6, that's a problem for them. The choice might be a no-brainer, you say, but actually depending on their financial situation (spouse/no spouse, etc.) and the way the university handles funding, some people seem to take the NSF instead of the Javits. Not too mention everybody who is waiting to see whether they got an NSF to decide where to go. My heart goes out to you.... Poor little old me, though, is not lucky enough to have such lofty problems. I would just be happy with a little bone thrown my way... an HM.
