  1. I received an e-mail yesterday from my department stating that the San Clemente housing application deadline was extended to June 1 from May 15. Then I started looking into the contract details, prices, etc. and am 95% sure I'd rather look for an apartment in Goleta. I am looking for a 2 or 3-bedroom place in the range of $700-800 per room, anyone else in this price range want to go in together? Ideally I'm looking for a 2 bed, 1 bath for $1500-1600 around 3 miles from campus (close enough to bike or bus). I have seen a few on craigslist available now in that range, but I'm going to work with some of the real estate people posting on craigslist to see if I can lock in something in advance, or at least try and beat the back-to-school rush/price increase. Let me know if you're interested, thanks!
  2. San Clemente people... did you apply for housing? I saw the deadline was May 15 but it doesn't look like a hard deadline. Seems very early.
  3. My plan is either to live in the San Clemente apartments or, if I can find an affordable enough option, take an apartment within 4 miles or so of campus. I would bus or bike to campus in that situation. On Craigslist I saw a 3-bed place for $2,275 last night, which per bedroom seems to be the cheapest out there. Also saw a couple of 2-bed places for $1700-1800. Since I don't see myself staying in SB long-term, my inclination is to find a furnished place to avoid the cost of buying furniture and/or moving it. Still very much up in the air! Saving my pennies in the meantime.
  4. For those accepted to Bren (whether you will be attending or not) - Have you received any word on funding? I shot an e-mail to admissions requesting an update and they responded with a rather canned template saying that they have completed the allotment of fellowship awards and all recipients have been notified. My acceptance letter breaks down the cost of attendance but does not address funding/fellowships in any way. It doesn't appear that anyone in this thread at least has mentioned receiving funding for Bren, either. Then again, the SIR won't be available until tomorrow so maybe it will be included on my Application Status Page? Deadline for the SIR is 4/15... seems like a rather short amount of time to give someone to make their decision. Thanks for listening!
  5. Hey sbgrad - can you give a more detailed breakdown of what to expect with San Clemente housing? I am also interested in staying there but want more details. I would be going for a 2-bedroom setup. How big are the bedrooms? How big is the kitchen? Is it electric or gas? I love to cook so the kitchen aspect is pretty important to me. Exactly how furnished is it? I assume bed/dresser/closet/couches/tables, but should I expect anything more/less? What about laundry? Thanks!
  6. I decided on UCSB. Where are you all thinking of living while you're there?
  7. I also just got my acceptance to UCSB Bren. Very excited! Now re-crossing my fingers for funding.
  8. There was an admitted students day for Bren already?! Were many people there? I was under the impression that the majority of applicants still don't have a decision. Maybe I was wrong. Makes me feel THAT much better about my chances...
  9. Tell me about it, I check the website compulsively... congrats on Duke and Michigan though. I imagine they would have to send out the rest of the decisions by the end of this week if not early next week, since it will be April and all by then. They only take about 75 new students each year, correct?
  10. "Dear Jason, Your application to the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management is very competitive and currently is under consideration by the admissions committee. Thank you for your patience as the committee completes its deliberations in the coming weeks. We appreciate your interest in the Bren School and will be in touch with you soon!" I hate waiting...
  11. Hey guys, first post here - Anyone know more details about when UCSB Bren will let everyone else know? I see some of you have decisions already, most of which appear to be acceptances. The website used to say that decisions would be communicated by March 19, now it says "by the beginning of March." EDIT: removed my resume/stats. Sorry for breaching the forum rules. I think I am competitive but am extremely anxious and tired of waiting like everyone else. Only difference between myself and the rest of you guys in this thread is that I applied to only one (yes, one) program - Bren - because I wanted to stay in southern California and no other programs were the right combination of fit and affordability. Now I'm second guessing myself.
