  1. Hey everyone, I started an new website/blog with some tips/lessons learned/examples from my graduate school application processes (Masters in 2012/PhD in 2014). When I was applying, I struggled to find many good resources and decided to create this website. Check it out and let me know what you think. If you have any ideas for more content to add, feel free to let me know! http://graduateadmission.net
  2. I too agree that ASU is a great school and I considered it for both my Masters and PhD applications. I've heard awesome things about the School of Sustainability! However, as a winter/mountain type of guy it wasn't a very good match for me.
  3. I'm going to wait as long as I can, but I just really want to make a decision...and it is not an easy one. I've been accepted to UNR with funding, UBC Okanagan with funding, waitlisted at Oregon State, and rejected at SUNY ESF.
  4. I've been waitlisted at Oregon State (PHD), anyone plan on declining their offer?
  5. "I do have some information though I don't know how helpful it will be for you at this time. We have made our first round offers. These applicants have until April 15 to either accept or decline the offer. We have a pool of applicants in reserve to fill any spots open from first round declines. That is where your application is at the moment...kind of like being in limbo. Our advice to those in this situation is to carefully consider any offers you may get before we get back to you. If you get a great offer, you may wish to accept it as we cannot guarantee anything at this point. Let me know if I can answer any other questions or if you wish to ask again later, please do." That was from the admin at the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. On a positive note, it looks like I've been offered full funding at UNR.
  6. I'm still in the dark as well, i called a few days ago and they said to expect a response any day now...
  7. I live in Golden, right down the road from Boulder, and I don't think the flooding was as big of an issue at CU as it was in other areas of Boulder and the upstream communities. However, i'm willing to bet the government shutdown had a huge impact with so many of the labs up there relying on the sole source funding.
  8. Called Oregon State CAOS office today, they said they are expecting the final list to come in any time now. Ugh hate waiting.
  9. PHD, I was also told in an email today that were was additional funding in the Hydrologic Science program for two GTA positions for PHD students if any research-specific funding falls through.
  10. Just received an email that I was invited to the University of Reno/Desert Research Institute Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences (GPHS) recruiting days, scheduled for March 7-8, 2014, as a "top candidate." E-mail said, "We can reimburse up to $500 for roundtrip transportation costs (gas or coach flight) to Reno and we will provide transportation in the Reno area as well as meals and lodging with current GPHS students during your stay in Reno." Wooo
  11. I have quite a few co-workers who got their masters (env planning) at Denver. All had good things to say and it really seems to be a school that networks well.
  12. I finished a 30 credit non-thesis program in 11 months to earn a MS in environmental engineering.
  13. If you push it, you can sometimes get a Masters degree in less than a year.
