Yeah, it was awkward. Fortunately I had a good connection with the students and nobody thought much of it (to my knowledge). I actually hope that google stalking is part of admission decisions. A committee would be able to differentiate between me and evil-me, and in doing so they would see that I have already contributed to the discussions that I've proposed to further engage. I didn't know how to sinuously mention such 'accomplishments' in my SOP, so I just left them to the CV... -

That's ok, sebastiansteddy, the only other person in the world with my name lives on the opposite side of the globe and uploads pictures of the Klan. Get this: I learned about this individual before giving a lecture on Civil Rights. When a student didn't believe that I was previously an athlete, I google-imaged my name to prove it. BOOM, pictures of white hooded men and lynchings on the white screen in front of the whole class, with my name attached to them. I wish I was joking... -
So what you're saying,Two Espressos, is that Freud's Copernican Revolution was in the final analysis only a Copernican step? Sounds pretty Lacanian to me... I can think of another thinker who agrees about what scientific thought should be: "It is not permissible to declare that science is one field of human mental activity and that religion and philosophy are others, at least its equal in value, and that science has no business to interfere with the other two: that they all have an equal claim to be true and that everyone is at liberty to choose from which he will draw his convictions and in which he will place his belief. A view of this kind is regarded as particularly superior, tolerant, broad-minded and free fro illiberal prejudices. Unfortunately it is not tenable and shares all the pernicious features of an entirely unscientific weltanschuung and is equicalent to one in practice." .... ... -Sigmund Freud they see me trollin...

Yes, yes, you might not be envious of those who have the penis... but don't you wish you were a phallus? Or that you could enter the symbolic more concretely through extension of the penis-child? In all seriousness though, both works that you mentioned are in the bibliography of my thesis :-) edit: what about Kleinian breast envy?... "There is no stronger evidence that we have been successful in our effort to uncover the unconscious than when the patient reacts to it with the words 'i didn't think that,' or 'i didn't (ever) think of that.'" -Freud

What are you reading?

I like your style, bluecheese. I'm currently rereading parts of Time and Sense: Proust & the Experience of Literature for my thesis... -
TripWillis, Thank you for the reply! I was looking more for specific qualms with theoretical models and ideas. I started typing a long response to your post, but then I realized that I have proofs to correct and a thesis to write! A prescriptive model of the unitary Oedipal subject should be critiqued. I remain unsure what this has to do with Freud's descriptive accounts, however. I still don't understood how Freud's ideas have come to be assumed as evangelizing prescriptions for normalcy--especially regarding issues of gender and sexuality. In the final analysis, “If I am asked ‘am I myself convinced of the truth of these hypotheses?’—I would answer that I am not and do not seek to persuade others to believe in them.’” Good luck to all this application season!

Congrats, bluecheese! They have some absolute rock stars (students and profs) in that department!
