  1. i was accepted into grad school I first received an informal email stating that I was accepted with a stipend and a tuition waiver a week later i received a letter in the mail stating my acceptance and that I am considered an "out of state" resident I then received a letter via email with the official offer letter stating my stipend and that i receive an "in state" tuition waiver The program website states "A limited number of in-state and out-of-state tuition waivers are also available." how do these things generally work? should i assume my tuition is covered (not counting general student fees) or am I expected to pay the difference between "in" and "out" state residency? Also, my permanent address on my application is "in state" but b/c i was in school so i had an "out of state" mailing address is it comes down to paying the difference, is this typically something that can be fought? by the time I go down there I will have an "in state" drivers license (i currently do not)
  2. do u have a general preference in the type of chemistry? the key is really, whichever type of chemistry you like most, pursue that and learn the most techniques that you can in that field generally analytical chem will land u a job the easiest, but not necessarily the highest paying
  3. On Tuesday, I was accepted into grad school and was emailed by the director for the deptartment. He told me I was admitted and that he will be preparing the official offer letter later this week. He also asked me to reply letting him know if I am planning to accept. I replied almost immediately that I accept. He never replied (not that it is necessary) but my status on the website still doesn't show accepted. I am assuming that I should just expect the offer letter via snail mail, right? I know im being overly paranoid but after reading some of these posts on the forum about schools withdrawing acceptances I just want to ease my mind. I should just be patient til middle of next week, and if I dont get anything send him another email?
  4. haha ur just rejecting them anyway same here tho, nothing either i got into UNC greesnboro's Medicinal Biochem programs so ill be going there, rankings aside i liked UNCG's program better anyway
  5. try any avoid apartments owned by Sal Associates they are awful landlords the original owner died and left the business to his son who is scum and his cousin runs the "maintenance" who is a bigger scum. nothing gets fixed id check out apartments off vestal ave (behind target/bed bath and beyond)
  6. I have the same question. Anyone suggest any specific locations to rent from? or live? which areas are safer and lower crime my wife and I are going to be moving to the greensboro area (I will be attending grad school there and she is a nurse) we see some good deals but are getting concerned about its level of crime any suggestions are highly appreciated
  7. I recently got accepted into UNC Greensboro. My wife is a nurse and will be applying to Greensboro/Winston-Salem area We are looking for any suggestions on good living locations. From what I read online, Greensboro is beautiful but there are certainly areas with higher crime rates any suggestions on safer neighborhoods to live in. We dont mind commuting and with the possibility of her being in a hospital near winston-salem, locations more west are probably prefered (although we dont know where she wil be yet so all suggestions are appreciated) From what I have read, Northwest of Greensboro is fairly nice, though might be pricy we are looking to rent while I am still in school Any info is greatly appreciated thanks
  8. I recently got accepted into a Medicinal Biochemistry PhD program (UNC Greensboro) I am also waitlisted for a Chemistry PhD program (NCSU) NCSU is a much higher ranked school (3rd in the state) and has a very good and large chemistry program UNCG is much smaller and the program was only started in 2008 so it is not nearly as ranked, but it is exactly what I want to do I got my MS i chemistry but left because I wasnt doing the type of research that I wanted. UNCG is focused exactly in the area that I love. NCSU Im sure I could find research that is in my focus (there are a few professors that also do what I want) but it is much larger Another reason I left the other school with my MS was bc I was getting basically Zero attention and help from my advisor bc I wasnt doing his main project. NCSU being larger I also fear this can happen again. I am very excited about UNCG but i wasnt sure if I was making a mistake by not going to NCSU (provided I get an offer) because it is a higher ranked school On websites NCSU is ranked around Duke while UNCG is generally not ranked (possibly do to the program being new tho?) Just looking for opinions I guess
  9. I cant speak for their economics program, nor do I know anything about the location of University of Kansas, but I can tell you the actually city of Binghamton is depressing. I live here now (leaving asap after graduating) the city itself is run down and depressed. they just suffered a devastating flood (and had another devastating one 5 years prior) so it is constantly recovering from these damages. There is very minimal to do for a graduate student and not much more even if u drive an hour in any direction. its ranked 6th cloudiest and 2nd fattest in the country! dont let this make your decision, as whichever program fits you best is the one you should take, but from experience the city is not the most enjoyable
  10. Still nothing. Each week that goes by is torture. Maybe April is the magic month
  11. No haven't heard. Sorry
  12. Damn. Another week and still nothing I emailed Maria and all she said was that decisions are still being finalized. Atleast I don't see a bunch of people posting they got accepted to chemistry at ncsu on the results page. Haha
  13. yea mabye I will email Maria again on Monday. I emailed David this past week after hearing your first reply but never responded. Maria was quick to repond my first time. Hopefully we both get good new, good luck
