  1. I'm currently in my first year at Indiana State University's SAHE program and it fits everything you're describing. There are 12 people in my cohort, making us one of the smallest I've seen. We're required to complete three practicum experiences throughout our 2 years in the program. The assistantships pay for almost all costs. And there's definitely the opportunity to get the social justice focus. Feel free to message me if you have specific questions
  2. I hope you don't mind me answering this after so long, but Have you looked at University of the Pacific? It's more central California than Northern, but it's a pretty good program from what I understand. I have a good friend/former colleague who just finished his Master's there and I know he really enjoyed himself. I also believe USF is starting a brand-new Student Affairs program this year. I grew up in California and spent the last 4 years at Sonoma State, so I know people with a broad range of experiences in both SoCal and NorCal. While I'll be leaving CA for my Master's (I'm starting this fall at Indiana State for my MS in Student Affairs & Higher Ed), if you have any questions about CA in general, don't be shy! NASPA also has a great directory where you can search by school size, location, program focus, and lots of other options. I mentioned it in another thread, but it really was helpful to me in narrowing my search. You can find the search at http://www.naspa.org/career/gradprograms/search.cfm I hope that helps!
  3. NASPA is a fantastic resource for narrowing your search. If you go to http://www.naspa.org...rams/search.cfm you can narrow down your search by size, location, focus, whether you want an assistantship, and TONS of other options. It really helped me when I was searching. Colorado State is an excellent program, but very competitive. They got over 270 applications this year for about 20-30 spots. Not to discourage you at all, just so you know. With what you're looking for, I would definitely look for programs that require assistantships. Most of them do, and they're great opportunities to get experience. They also curb the cost (I am getting partial tuition waver/room and board/meal plan/stipend) by quite a bit. Even if you don't get an assistantship, look for some practicum experiences to help. Looks like you had some great undergrad experiences; that will definitely help. Having just gone through the process, feel free to message me if you have any questions. I'd love to help! I'm starting later this month at Indiana State University.
  4. I'll be moving to Indiana State University for the next two years to pursue my Master's in Student Affairs & Higher Education. I leave my home in Southern California two weeks from (technically, since it's after midnight) today! I start job training for my assistantship on the 27th, but we're taking a few days to road trip there. Classes start August 21st. Just curious to see what everyone's journey looks like.
  5. On the bright side! My advisor (who is also my academic reference) told me this morning that they called him to ask for a reference PROGRESS!
  6. Yes, it'll be two weeks on Wednesday. But I've also talked to a few people now who've told me to just wait. AGH SO CONFLICTED.
  7. I'm still waiting on news from Indiana State's Student Affairs/Higher Ed program. In order to be part of their program you have to have an assistantship. I got an email in response to one I sent from their Assistant Director of ResLife on the 11th that I was still in the candidate pool, they had to put hiring on hold because of their budget, that their budget had just been approved and that she would be making calls "in the next week or so." I was hoping that I would hear this past week, but still nothing. I don't want to seem overly persistent or pushy, so how long should I wait before I follow up again? Or do I follow up at all, since I've already emailed her once? Thanks!

  9. As some of you know, I have been going crazy waiting (as I'm sure many of you have as well) for the only school that hasn't rejected me to get in touch with me with a yes or no. A week or so ago I emailed two of the people I interviewed with for assistantships. One finally emailed me back and said he didn't have a spot for me. Today, I got an email from the other woman saying that they were under a hold on hiring because of their budget, but that their budget finally got approved and I am still in the candidate pool if I am still interested...AND that I should hear back in the next week or so! So those of you still waiting, don't freak out too much...I think the budget could be affecting schools more than we think, especially if (like this school) they require funding in order to be in the program.
  10. I'm still waiting to hear from one of the grad schools I applied to. It's been almost two months since my interview. My friends think I'm on some kind of waitlist and they're just waiting to hear back from people they've already extended offers to (as I know several other people who applied/interviewed have gotten offers), but I've still heard NOTHING. I emailed the people who interviewed me a couple of days ago for some kind of status update but haven't gotten a response. They're going to let me know if I'm rejected, right? I don't want to have to keep waiting forever...ughhhhh.
  11. I've received emails pretty late at night too, but always during the week. It's been a month and a half since I interviewed at my dream school...I sent them an email a week ago asking for an update and they responded with "we're still working on details and will get back to you when we have something definite. Thanks for your patience." Well...DUH. It's not like I have any choice BUT to be patient. Does anyone know if the April 15th deadline is for every school/program? Or is that just in general?
  12. I applied to several programs for a Master's in Student Affairs/Higher Ed. I'm still waiting to hear back from Indiana State, my 1st choice. I sent an email last week asking for a status update since it had been a month since my interview, and got this response: We are still working out details with assistantship sites and will get back to know [sic] when we have something definite. Thanks for your patience. aaaaand that's it. Nothing else. I'm going CRAZY waiting!! Especially since he didn't give me a "you'll know by x" or anything like that. Any tips on how to manage waiting game?? I'm especially nervous since I've been rejected everywhere else...I'd rather not reapply next year =/
