  1. Thanks, Meanyus, on the perspective from Utah's offer. I just had a good chat with my grad advisor, and she said essentially the same thing: "Not to worry". Phew. And I do plan on going to NCSU's visit weekend, though I haven't heard anything back from the dept. to arrange travel. If you end up getting able to go, that'd be great!
  2. Thanks, VioletAyame! It certainly helped diminish the rejection, but the funding is slightly worrisome: 3 years with the possibility of a 4th year, contingent on satisfactory progress OR availability of funds. That feels a little iffy, because I don't know if that permits them to deny funding or if that is just official language to avoid saying to everyone that most students get funding in their fourth year. I'm coming into these programs with an MA, so I plan on completing the PhD in 4 years, but it's hard to say at this point. Adding another option to the list never hurts!
  3. Thanks! I've now heard back in one form or another from all my apps! It feels satisfying!
  4. Hey Meanyus: Someone from the department emailed me directly. I assume they're sending these e-mails out individually. I received the e-mail from the graduate school today. Your e-mail from the department must be arriving sometime today, I would imagine. There is a visit weekend March 27-28.
  5. Yes, that is true! I haven't been able to stop thinking about my on-campus interviews as well though. Once all of that (and my MA thesis) is behind me (by early April), then the reality of taking the plunge into PhD-dom next year will hit me.
  6. It's official: rejection from Brown. Congrats to those who got in. I received an e-mail to check the application website.
  7. Accepted to North Carolina State's "Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media" program. Full funding (TA-ship)! They sent the e-mail at 9:00pm! Huzzah!
  8. I see. Well, the wait continues!
  9. Are you quoting this from another thread? I can't seem to find it now... Anyway, it's good news for whoever that is!
  10. ...Oh no, Brown is accepting students already?? *Cue me checking my e-mail every twenty minutes*
  11. Good to know! Now I can put the anxiety for that department's decisions on the shelf (for now).
  12. UT-Austin is moving forward with their applications! I just received word that I've been wait-listed (Media Studies PhD).
  13. Hi there. I'll be there on the last weekend as well. I just followed up with the travel agent to book my flights. I wonder if there will be larger group sessions where multiple departments will be represented.
  14. My one application that I'm so anxious to hear back from is Brown University (Modern Culture & Media)... The program looks amazing.
  15. Has anyone else applied to UMich's Screen Arts & Cultures program? I've been invited to the interview weekend Feb. 20-22! It's so soon!! :/
  16. I applied to a PhD program at UT-Austin, but I got this message after submitting my application back in early December. I think it is just a generic message that is generated when adcomm/departmental staff confirm your materials and officially submit the application. Though now I'm hoping that I will get a result soon as well!
  17. Well, congrats on your acceptance at any rate!
  18. Thank you! Good luck to you as well. I don't see any other results posted on the results page, so perhaps they're sending out invitations sporadically.
  19. Well, I've been invited to Northwestern's on-campus interview weekend! I applied to the Screen Cultures program... I'm certainly freaking out now...
  20. I also received a rejection from UCSB myself (their film&media studies program). Otherwise, no news! I'm so eager just to know one way or the other, or to get an interview.
  21. Well, UCSB is beginning to send out decisions. I have been rejected, and it is a bit of a let-down. Anyway, to those who have also applied: decisions are imminent!
