  1. @TakeruK Thanks a lot for the response I really appreciate it! This will mostly likely be a small side project. After reading your response, I've looked into my school's guidelines which state that a student is allowed to engage in extracurricular internships so long they do not exceed 450 hours/year (same as NSERC). This project would only take a few months so I should be in the clear.
  2. Hey Guys; I currently hold an NSERC PGS-M; however, a colleague of mine and I have been approached by a company to do a project via a Mitacs Accelerate Indev grant. I'm really not sure if both can be held concurrently, my Grad School has looked into the issue briefly with no results. FYI my area of research under NSERC and the Mitacs project are not related. Has anyone else ever run into this issue? Thanks.
  3. My university's School of Graduate Studies told me today they have the results but are waiting to announce them . Im on the East Coast.
  4. Haha I've been through all of this, don't get too excited yet. I started freaking out checking the mail everyday around this time last year and didn't end up finding out the results until around April 11th. It does sound like they should be a little earlier this time around though, I think last year was really late.
  5. But the selection committee can't be experts in every single aspect of their general area of research. In the guidelines it tells you to keep the proposal general so that what you plan to do is easily understood. Hard to say though, this whole process is a mystery to me. In my first application I just talked about the project in general terms (was sent to Ottawa, but didn't get an award). This time around I started with why my work is important to Canada and current issues in the field. I then explained how my project could aid in fixing the current issues in general terms and how I intended on doing so (sent to Ottawa, still waiting on a response). If it doesn't get accepted this year, my third proposal will be a page chock full of 100% technical jargon hahaha.
  6. I applied for a CGS/PGS M for the 2012-2013 academic year and was not successful, am I still eligible to apply for a CGS/PGS M award for the 2013-2014 academic year? I'll be starting my master's in Fall 2012.
  7. does anyone which nserc email address to contact regarding feedback on an application? I emailed schol@nserc-crsng.gc.ca a while ago and still have not gotten a reply :S
  8. I actually just won a faculty wide award for being heavily involved and I potentially have the top mark in my graduating year lol. it was second year that got me (SECOND YEAR FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU )
  9. I'm starting my graduate degree in September and did not get a PGS/CGS-M award (I assume it was because my 2nd year marks were ~3.9). When I apply again for the 2013-2014 competition what will my chances be? I will have completed one year of my master's degree at that point and my 3rd and 4th year of my bachelors degree GPA = 4.3/4.3. Is the judging different for people who are applying for funding in the second year of their master's?
  10. I go to UBC, my second year was a little all over the board (A-'s, A's, A+'s) but my third and fourth year have been all A+'s I only have field experience though I was not able to work for a prof in my undergrad
  11. Just got rejection notice from the grad studies office. If I'm waitlisted what are the chances of getting an award?
  12. cool link describing exactly what goes on at the NSERC offices during the ranking process http://www.grad.uwaterloo.ca/scholarships/NSERC%20hints%2005.pdf
  13. correct me if im wrong, but USRA's are handled in house by universities so those results have no bearing on CGS/PGS or PDF
