  1. Nice! My email was quoted from this morning.
  2. If only she replied with "hello, certainly! It is very easy for me to punch in a password and find out for you. Here are your results: _______, thank you and have a nice day." Although, based on my interactions with administrative staff at McGill, that kind of helpfulness and politeness would be extremely out of order hahahaha
  3. "Results are not yet available, and they will not be available to students from this office. In fact, our contact at NSERC told us on Friday that they did not know when the resultswill be available. The official notice will be mailed to you direct from the agency to the mailing address you provided on your application last fall. If you have moved since last fall, it is advisable to update your address with the agency." Based on the tone of that email, I'd says he's answer more than one of those today!
  4. I harassed my grad studies office this morning and was told that they would not be releasing the results nor do they have them, I must wait for mail. McGill.
  5. Which one leads to a long-term career?
  6. Guys, there is no evidence for what I said about previous NSERCs being correct. However, when applying this year, I was on the cusp of CIHR/NSERC, and my boss said "NSERC, you already got one". Common sense dictates that there will be some politics. It was one of my many examples to show that papers are only 1 piece of the puzzle. Keep your hopes up and wait for the letters.
  7. I have 0 evidence of that, it is purely speculative on my part. But everything in the world has politics so I find it hard to believe that if you were funded by NSERC previously and didn't implode that you wouldn't be considered again.
  8. Grades, awards, your supervisor, the quality of your environment, whether or not you were funded at the master's level, if you finished on time, if those results were published, previous jobs that point to leadership skills, letters of reference (and who is writing them), and, of course, your research proposal. All of those play a role. We get fixated on papers but in reality, expecting a 23 year old student with an MSc to have 6 first author papers is unrealistic.
  9. Definitely wishful thinking, but I hope so to. I have no idea why the grad department doesn't have them yet though (unless they were full of it)
  10. This is so bizarre. I'm not sure how Vaniers and Bantings (or even CGS) are justified when so little people have access to the standard PDF awards. PhD students don't need $50,000 dollar scholarships. I'm hoping for $21,000/year
  11. Well if UVic weren't there, you could argue alphabet UofA, UBC, Concordia, Carelton, Dal, UVic? Likely explanation is some universities are lazy
  12. To those at McGill: I wrote to the person who notified me that my application was sent forward to NSERC and she said: "Results are not yet available, and they will not be available to students from this office. In fact, our contact at NSERC told us on Friday that they did not know when the results will be available." Bummer. I was hoping this soap opera would end before the holiday!
  13. I wouldn't worry, the Master's one is only 12 months and I took mine up in second year when the project was already underway. Try again next year and present some of your findings/next steps. You should get it with those grades.
  14. Depends where you are on the wait list. Awards will get turned down from people winning Vaniers and those that change their mind on grad school. What school are you from? Dal?
  15. I'd personally be shocked if it were that simple....Especially because colleagues of mine at McGill were awarded a PGS-D without having a 1st author paper in years past.
  16. Congrats! And congrats to your department administrative staff for staying after 4!
  17. At 5:04 pm we are toast today in the east! Tomorrow?
  18. 3 years for PGSD3, 2 years for PGSD2. Where are you located and how'd you get the info? You're the first.
  19. Why would she tell you if NSERC forbids it? Seems unnecessarily stressful!
  20. Did they contact you with your result? No emails for me from McGill
  21. Nope. From the people who have called, no one has reported an early week release. They all said late this week or early next.
  22. Ah, that makes sense. Hopefully the PDFs are prioritized, much bigger deal than the CGS/PGS.
  23. Were you planning to start your award on April 1st if one was awarded to you? For me (CGS/PGS), it doesn't change the start date so I'm not worrying too much...
