  1. I currently teach English in the Czech Republic and will be moving to Boston in the fall. In fact, I do nothing to keep myself going each day. This job is terribly boring and very time consuming. Maybe, as someone has said before, I try to take one day at a time. It makes me stress less about all the crappy lessons I have that week and in some way makes the weeks go faster. But I can't shake the negative thoughts about all the other English teachers here who actually enjoy the job. Knowing that I'm going to graduate school really makes me not care about this job. But always I see the others who try really hard, and in a way force themselves to care...seems pointless to me. It really is a deadend, unrewarding line of work which doesn't even pay well.
  2. Williams in general...I just read Politics of Modernism and will be reading another by him (as soon as I find a used copy that's not $35!!). Right now I'm reading some Jung--it's a sort of anthology of his important writing on dreams. Really good, very accessible. Will be reading more by him in the near future. It's really important to know some Marx. While not everyone is willing to tackle the thousands of pages of Capital, it is certainly worthwhile to pick up a copy of The Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844--it's not too lengthy and sort of works as a good summary of his main ideas in Capital. Of course it differs, but I believe it can serve as a good introduction to Marx's philosophy.
  3. I don't know what to do with all that time I previously spent staring at my email waiting for decisions.
  4. I turned down my offer from them a few days ago...don't know if that will help anyone. Also it was for one of those glorious 10 unfunded MA spots.
  5. Congrats to all that got in...I received my rejection a few days ago. Already accepted an offer from Boston College so it's not the end of the world.
  6. Just accepted an offer from Boston College for a funded (well, for the first year) MA! Very excited. Anybody else from here heading to Boston? I'll be doing 19th century American literature and critical theory.
