I'm sorry ? Are those all the schools you applied to? They are really competitive schools, if you're going to be rejected, those are the ones to be rejected from!
-
I visited Purdue a few weeks ago and should get an official offer soon. I am not sure if I will accept, it's not a great research match, but I will think about it. Everyone was so nice and the campus was beautiful! The town is tiny, that would take some serious getting used to. I'm from a good sized city and couldn't believe that I went 3 days seeing so few people! What did you guys think of it?

I am going to have to reject at least one offer and I am going to feel really badly. Of my two acceptances, both professors have been SO nice to me, we've been communicating since November so we've e-mailed for a long time and I just went out to visit them. One school's offer is pretty low, so I can blame it partly on that. I mean they realize that just by visiting and expressing interest there is no guarantee, but I am still going to feel really badly

A lot of schools haven't sent rejections, or at least not to everyone. I haven't heard an official word from WUSTL, Tufts, Northeastern, or Emory but I know that they are all interviewed. I guess I didn't make the interview pile but I'm on back-up in case people don't accept. The only place I really want this to happen is OHSU (I'm on a wait list :? )!

University of Houston- Cognitive Developmental Neuroscience. Non-clinical psych sometimes accepts without interviews. Why don't you contact your schools and ask if they have extended interview invites or acceptances yet?

I keep hearing that Broad Ripple is the place to be, I will definitely look into it if I go there. I'm a typical vegetarian-eating, yoga-going Californian so I would want to find a place that has health food stores and stuff like that. I just wouldn't want it to be full of drunk 21 year olds who bang on your door at 4am or something (I used to live in a place like that). In any case, this sounds like a cool area, thanks!

Any thoughts about Indianapolis? It seems like a good sized city with enough to do. I may be faced with a decision between here and West Lafayette, and while I would not choose based on location, it does seem like Indianapolis would be a better place to spend the next 6 years!

I have no idea about switching tracks, I don't imagine it would be easy but who knows. I had Dr. Rickard for stats sophomore year, he was cool, I have no idea what he does his research on though. Our experimental program is like #2 in the country, don't feel badly, I wouldn't get in and I'm here for undergrad. Where else are you waiting to hear/have you heard from??

In San Diego you definitely want a car. I can't imagine a day without my car, unless I lived, worked, and did everything downtown, but sadly I am not a multimillionaire so that's not going to happen.

Sounds good? I was "shortlisted" at a school, flown out to visit, and unofficially accepted before I even got on the plane to come home. I really didn't know what this whole "shortlist" thing meant, but turns out it was pretty good!

Who did you apply to work with?
-
Oh I just know that they interviewed for my department and I didn't get invited. So not a rejection per se, but it doesn't look good

GPA: 2.9 overall, 3.5 in my major (switched from pre-med after 2 years ) from a top 15ish public university GRE: 540V, 730Q, 4.5AWA 2 publications Awesome research experience A hell of a lot of luck See below for current acceptances status I I \/

This is my first time applying, it's been pretty hellish I can't imagine doing it again. What program did you apply for? Based on your stats I can't imagine why you wouldn't have gotten in anywhere! I applied to 10 schools, so far I've gotten in to 2, waiting to hear back from one after an interview, wait listed at another, 3 are "still reviewing," and I didn't get an interview at 3 others (including Emory as well). You should definitely contact admissions secretaries and/or the person you applied to work with if you haven't heard anything. You must be going crazy, I know I am!1

I'm going to visit in a few days, pretty excited! Just a couple of questions: Is there enough to do there? I don't really require much, but a variety of restaurants and bars would be nice. Where do people live? Especially if you perhaps want to rent a house not adjacent to loud college kids. Ummm....do you like it???

I have had a few "unavailable" calls that I couldn't answer while running experiments, but no message was left. The last one was on Friday and it actually was my POI accepting me, and she did leave a message. I would assume that if they don't leave a message, they'd e-mail you or try to call again. I can't imagine one missed call with no message was an acceptance, unfortunately.

I guess I don't know that much about Civil Engineering or the ranking of your undergraduate institution, but people get into PhD programs with lower GPAs than that. I would think that for a master's program, and with your rockin' GRE score, you're probably in good shape. Did you already apply?
-
All of my POI's who invited me for interviews/visits made it very clear that if I couldn't make the official weekend, I could come another time. Have you asked about this? If I were you, I would sent the POI from the unscheduled-interview-school an email asking if there is any way I could come a different weekend, and not necessarily give a reason as to why. They might say "oh of course that is no problem, how's the weekend after?" in which case you're off the hook. If it's not flexible, then visit the school you'd rather go to, because from what I've heard they usually won't accept you if you don't come to the interview. In any case, this is a good problem to have!

Not because of my GPA! My GRE scores were pretty good (~1300), but it wasn't that either. I busted my butt for 3 years working in labs and making connections and doing internships and pretty much everything I could, all in one area of psychology. My resume now looks pretty good for still being an undergrad, and I know that my letters of rec are glowing. I think the LORs are really what gave me any chance, because I have a huge deficit from my first 2 years' GPA. A focused statement of purpose probably helped also. It's funny because of all the 10 schools I applied to, I'm interviewing with/accepted to the ones with the best 'fit' of research interests. There were a couple of schools I now realize I shouldn't have even applied to because I just wasn't a good match for what they are studying. But it seems that they do a pretty good job of not accepting you if you're not a good match! :?
-
Why don't you just call and ask? I did that and ended up sending an entire batch of transcripts, but that was really just because my early GPA was pretty low and I had a 3.9 fall quarter with some impressive classes. It was probably a waste of money for some schools though. You should just call up the graduate secretaries and ask if they have already extended invites, and if not then ask if you can send an updated transcript. Good luck!

That's awesome, must be nice to know you're in somewhere, and with choices at that! I did apply to a fair amount, 11 total but I just got word that one of them isn't accepting any students due to lack of funding, even after I had a very enthusiastic response from a potential adviser there. So of the remaining 10, I have 2 interviews, I know of 3 interviews that I didn't get, and I'm still waiting on the last 5 that haven't extended invites yet. Of course 4 of those 5 are my top choices- UT Austin, UNC Chapel Hill, Tufts, and Northeastern- so I'm going crazy! But I am sooo excited to interview at ASU and Purdue this month, it is so surreal I also didn't think I would get any interviews/acceptances. So anyway, no actual acceptances yet, since they interview first, but I would like to think that I will rock the interview and be in at least at those two, I would love to get one more so that I have a few to choose from. This is quite a process, and I have determined that nobody understands unless they have been through it as well! -

Hey that is awesome! congratulations! Have you heard from your top choice(s)? -
I applied to 11 Behavioral Neuroscience programs. The only one on that list is WashU, have you heard from them? I heard they are interviewing next weekend, and I haven't heard back, so I'm guessing that's a no! I am interviewing at ASU next weekend and Purdue a few weeks later, still waiting to hear from UT Austin, UNC Chapel Hill, Tufts, and Northeastern. Good luck to you! PS What specifically do you want to study?

+1 interview at ASU! -
That's another really good point. A 3.9 from one school most definitely is not a 3.9 from another. I would like to think that they take that into consideration!
