For houses, I would suggest Hethwood or Woodbine, both are nice places. I lived in Hethwood, its about a 5-10 minute drive from campus. For apartments, Foxridge is the nicest place in my opinion (It's right next to Hethwood). In terms of daycare, Rainbow Riders is definitely the best, but I've heard that it is difficult to get into so I would check them out as soon as possible. I wouldn't necessarily live in Christiansburg, but if that is the best pricing, etc, then it is only a 15 minute drive to tech (just get on 460 and go a couple exits down).

I lived in Blacksburg for 18 years growing up and my parents are Professors at Virginia Tech, so if you have any specific questions, let me know.

My s.o. is starting med school in the same city where I am starting graduate school in the fall. We made our decisions based on wanting to be together, but also not sacrificing too much in terms of education. I just hope with all of our work, we will still be able to see each other sometimes!

I am starting at Rice in the fall in the Computational and Applied Mathematics PhD program. Is anyone else going to Rice? I've never lived anywhere outside of Virginia and want to learn more about Houston. Also, if anyone is potentially looking for a roommate, let me know!
