  1. Thanks for the input everyone.
  2. So, I finished with a 4.0 this semester in 4 graduate only courses at a top public Canadian Master's program. Obviously, a 4.0 is high, and I feel that I worked for these marks. Indeed, I felt that I worked harder this last semester than I ever had in my undergraduate program (at the same university). However, at the same time, I'm left to wonder: does everyone really get an "A" in graduate school? What is the value of an "A" in grad school? Is a 4.0 the de facto standard?
  3. UofT doesn't typically fund MA students. I would also look into funding for McGill's MA programs. PhD programs are fully funded virtually everywhere in the country.
  4. Anyone have any idea when admissions packages are typically sent out? And what do they normally include? Thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks for the quick reply origin415. The problem, I think, isn't that I'm waiting on results from other graduate schools - but rather, that I'm now waiting on the results of professional (law) school applications. I've already been admitted to the top academic program within my discipline. I'm just worried that they may question my committment to the program/faculty if I don't accept by the offer deadline.
  6. Also, do I have to disclose the reasons for which I'm requesting an extension? It shouldn't be a problem, but I don't want to instigate any awkward moments.
  7. I was recently admitted to one of the top graduate programs for my field of interest -- however, I am also waiting on the results of my applications to professional school (which likely won't be released until after the mid-April deadline I was given). My hope is to defer professional school and take the graduate degree. I'm wondering if there is any potential harm in requesting a possible extension to further consider my options? Any insights? Anyone with experiences to share?
  8. Email from a faculty member with similar research interests.
  9. Just got into UofT! LOL!!!! Wtf York... wtf?
  10. Any clues as to how long the reversion list is for York?
  11. Was it an acceptance? I applied last year as well, and was notified of rejection on March 26th or so (via status checker). UofT rejected me on April 3rd (word of mouth), but officially, closer to the 12th. My applications weren't very strong last year. I didn't put much thought into the statements and was simply testing the admissions waters. Hopefully this cycle will prove more fruitful.
  12. If I'm not mistaken, there have been at least a few acceptances to the PhD program according to the GC.com results page.
  13. Re: UofT Decisions Is this information only applicable to the Political Science Dept? Admittedly, I applied for the Criminology MA at UofT (a smaller department). I'm just anxiously awaiting results. I did apply for the York Poli Sci MA though. Any word on those decisions?
  14. To Rory and seahistory: Thanks for the quick replies. I think we're in the hot zone for results. Could be any day. Fingers crossed.
  15. Bump. Sorry for necromancing this thread, but since we're now approaching the results date(s), I'm wondering if anyone has yet received word from any Canadian Political Science programs? I'm asking about MA programs, specifically. I've noticed just one acceptance from York University on March 1st. An acceptance that early seems a little dubious though, considering the inevitable increase in application volumes this year. Any insights/results/useless banter are much appreciated.
  16. Thank you, Ziz and Brewski both. Looks like I have a while to wait yet! To Rory: if I'm not mistaken, the admissions committee looks to admit PhD students before MA students. I believe you'll likely hear from them a little earlier than April. Maybe early March or late February.
  17. To those who have experience applying to graduate school in Canada, MA programs specifically: by what date should one reasonably expect to receive a response? I applied to both UofT and York for Political Science and have yet to see any movement on my file (as per their online status checkers).
  18. For any of those who are Canadian or have applied to Canadian schools in the past, when are offers typically made? I do realize that this depends on the department - however, schools (across departments) tend to issue acceptance offers at more or less the time time. I applied only to York and UofT. Also, when must the applicant typically respond to an offer? Thanks!
  19. Thanks! Check your PM inbox.
  20. Hi everyone, I'm requesting that someone familiar with the fields of Sociology, Criminology or Political Science critique my SOP for UofT's Criminology MA program. For your interest, I will be applying only to programs within Canada. I'd be more than happy to reciprocate. Please PM me if interested. Thanks in advance!
  21. I've applied to York and UofT (Political Science and Criminology MA programs).
  22. I was asking if my applications would be hurt if I failed to apply for external funding, not if my applications will be hurt as a result of applying for funding. Anyway, thanks to all for the input. I do believe that the above poster is correct RE: Toronto's Pol Theory MA and SSHRC/OGS funding. I'm simply feeding my anxiety ex post facto - and well beyond the application deadlines of any funding. So it won't matter anyway!
  23. Ferrero, thanks for your reply. Though, I'm not certain if part of what you are suggesting is to be taken in jest. These seem almost like hilarious ways to nudge a recommender (calling and hanging up?). I'll start with the incessant emails, and if in a few days that doesn't work I'll upgrade to the surrepititiously placed notes under the door. Thanks again!
  24. Hey everyone, I will be applying to 2 MA programs this cycle (York and UofT). Is it absolutely necessary that I applying for external scholarships? Will my applications be jeopardized if I fail to do so? Will they give me an advantage? I didn't think external funding was as integral for MA applicants (when compared to PhD applicants). Thanks in advance!
  25. I'm finding myself chasing one of my (final) recommenders. Moreover, application deadlines are fast approaching. Anyone have any insights on how to deal with such a circumstance?
