  1. Thumper, I agree that it seems strange that programs seem to be inconsistent about how they accept people. I guess what it shows is that most people who apply for MSW or post-grad BSW are probably EXTREMELY qualified; the same people are applying to both programs. Other than GPA, there must be a bit of luck involved in getting accepted - it is probably highly dependent on who are on the admissions committees and what they find appealing about people's applications. For example, I think U of T really likes research experience/academics but maybe the other programs prefer other kinds of experiences. Unfortunately there are just so many people competing for not enough spots.
  2. Hi FH 2012 and everyone, Just checked myfile for the post grad BSW at York and it says "Reviewed - unsuccessful - program full". Yikes! Weird that I could get into an MSW and not a post-grad BSW. I guess it really is about fit after all. Good luck to everyone I wish you all the best.
  3. Hi guys, My myfile was updated today for the MSW 2-year program at York so maybe they are finally getting around to telling us what is happening. (My status was reviewed-unsuccessful). Good luck to everyone!
  4. Hi all, I was accepted to U of T's MSW last week after the second time being wait listed. My average was only B + but to try to get in this year I retook a research methods course in order to get a better mark than my 73% - got 95% on a distance ed course from Athabasca. The course was actually a fair amount of work but it was pretty interesting and luckily no stats were involved . Apparently U of T sees your research course mark as pretty important in sorting through applications. (Of course, I'm sure your overall GPA and diversity of work/volunteer/life experience is even more crucial). I wish everyone the best. I look forward to working alongside you all in the social work field one day! p.s. still not heard from York at all....what a joke!!
  5. Ughh...still waiting for York 2 year MSW.....Frustrating!
  6. Hi everyone! I am in the same boat as many of you, having been wait listed at U of T for the 2nd year in a row, and still waiting for York to send out decisions. My degree is in Psychology and I have 3 years work experience in teaching/research assistant/program facilitator. Also have several years of volunteering in social services. My back up plan is the BSW online program through U Vic which I have already started as of May 7. Hope to finish it within 2 years or less...I have to say, I have noticed many of my classmates in the BSW have several years work experience in social services and even have masters degrees in things like Psychology. Just shows how darn competitive these programs are. Wish everyone the best of luck. Keep your heads up! Also lets just hope we hear from York before September..LOL! Kay
