Having stated what you wanted.. it seems to me that your consideration is irrelevant.... you might want to consider, instead, which school/PIs will give you the highest chance of getting admitted into your "top university"... because I think neither the CS ranking or Ivy tag is critical for admission to top US school.

Hi Just wanna start a thread to understand how gay international grad students can stay with their partners together during grad school Visa issues? - can you actually get them to apply for a F-1 dependent visa if the couple has a marriage certificate? Financial issues? Lets assume there is no financial issues (partner have enough saved up to support himself) Social issues? How to come out to your grad school mates?

OMG. haha.. ok I didn't know that the interview could be just 1 day! I asked to be flown in on thu and depart from the university the following wed!!! Since they will be paying for everything! I wonder if that has upset the adminstrators...

Hey xzjohn, Does it mean that it is possible if you self finance 1st year of your PhD, then get an RA for the rest of the 4 years? i.e. the advisor is not restricted by his grant to employ a foreign grad student to work on the project? Pls advise. Thanks!

I would like to share that MS programs are indeed easier to be admitted mainly because most MS are not funded.. and tuition from MS programs is a source of income for schools (thus MS admissions carries no financial risk). But top schools still choose MS applicants so as not to dilute quality.

Hey Crossedfingers, Duke's interview are either on 29th Feb or 28th March (you can choose). I am notified and would be going on 29th Feb (could be an advance notice since I am an international candidate). Anyway.. you already have a fully funded position at Purdue don't u?......

I think you might want to call and ask what are the expectations of the interview... i think different schools have different expectations... and maybe re-post your findings!

Americans have an edge in admission - hands-down.. especially in public schools, and especially public schools in California!

No .. no news from Duke yet ... But I received a rejection from Princeton Univ (Chem Eng PhD). someone from gradcafe has received interview invite from WUSTL!

I applied to Duke, Hopkins, UT Austin, Princeton, U of Minnesota (TC) and MIT. I am waiting for the interview invite from Duke, which my potential advisor asked whether I have received it... I think I am in!! but need official confirmation. Otherwise, no official news from all

It actually doesn't matter whether you put in the application early or just before the deadline. They get sent to the department at the same time. Well... I am not hearing anything from Duke as well! A bit nerve wrecking too, but will post something immediately when I hear something..
