  2. Thank you guys for your nice suggestions. I know, it wasn't a very thoughtfull move. But still, the way he mentioned some phrases like " 'special' relationship" or "these troubles still exist" wasn't very pleasant for me. I wanted to clear him up about his misinformation, and the facts I mentioned are absolutely true. But now I feel, the way I responded was kinda arrogant. Actually my main interest is "Mineral Physics", that PhD project was something different. I just applied there because it was quite easy, one just has to send their documents by email and no application fee.
  3. I don't know, what to regret here? I don't want to be in contact in any way with that kind of shitty people!!
  4. A month ago, I sent my CV and Transcripts to a Professor in EPFL for the consideration of an PhD opening. Today I got the following reply: "Dear Y, We went through your application and your technical profile would be highly suitable for the project. However, in discussing your profile with our Indian partners, we anticipate potential logistic difficulties related to the 'special' relationship between India and your country. We sincerely regret that these troubles still exist, but we depend on flexible travel arrangements in India for the candidate and therefore decided not to go forward with your application. We sincerely hope you do not take this personal and thank you for sending us your application, All the best in your future career." How ridiculous? I never heard about such 'special' relationship between India and Bangladesh!!! Rejection is not a big deal, even I wasn't that much interested on that PhD project; but the reason they showed sounds really irritating. I just replied: "Hello Dr. X, I don't mind to get a rejection; I understand it is quite normal in any kind of application process. But the cause you mentioned is quite ridiculous. I never heard any problem between Bangladesh and India. There are lots of student from Bangladesh goes to India and also some student from India goes to Bangladesh to study every year. Even I visited almost half of the India during my Bachelor level, I didn't face any tiny bit of problem. This email is just for the clarification of your misinformation (Some people might have some ego issue); not for the reconsideration of my application. Thank you very much."
  5. Would you please tell us some details about the visiting day of Penn State? How was it? How many students was there?
  6. I am from Bangladesh, But doing my MS in France. I need visa to go to USA for any purpose...
  7. I am an international student, got the invitation for prospective student weekend in UT Austin on Feb 23-26. I am quite excited, but it seems quite impossible for me to attend . First of all, I need visa. I don't know, if it is possible to get the visa within this short time. Also another factor is cost, it will be much more expensive for me to attend (Visa+Ticket) then the amount ($500) they will give me. Also, I just started my MS thesis from 1st of Feb, so I have to work a lots. Considering all of these, thinking not to attend in prospective student weekend. Instead, I want to request them for a video conference, if they are really interested to interview me. But just afraid, how negative the impact will be??? Any suggestion or advice will be highly appreciable. Thank you for your time.
  8. Queen of Kale, Would you mind to tell me the name of your POI in UT Austin?? Just asking, because I saw we have same research interest, "Mineral Physics", If I am not wrong...
  9. Attention to the peoples, who got fellowship offer in UT Austin => From the result section, it seems 3 people got the fellowship offer. Does anyone know, if they send the result only for the people who has been accepted for fellowship, Or for everyone?? Did you guys asked your POI about the result?? Or they just emailed you by themself?? Do you guys think, should I ask someone in UT Austin about my application decision??
  10. great idea........... Email me: tauhid.khan@members.em-a.eu
  11. Thank you very much..... I think, the content of my email wasn't that bad comparing with what she wrote in that blog, though was a little long, and except starting with "Dear Dr. X". I don't know, if is it a big mistake???
  12. thank you guys for your reply........ Today I got another reply from a prof.: "Thanks for your interest in my research. I am still accepting students to my group. Your research interest and background fit well with my group. I will consider you as a candidate for my group. However, our department accepts students with some basic criteria and you may like to contact X for further information. After you contact Kevin Jordan and you still have other question, please feel free to contact me." How about this one?
  13. I emailed a Professor, and he replied just after 30 minutes. His reply is like following: "your background sounds really interesting and you should definitely apply. Please let me know if there is any specific information that you would like to know from me. Best wishes" I am confused, if this reply is really promising? Or, just a common reply? Actually, I don't want to apply into lots of University because of both money and recommendation letters. So, I am looking for some advice. What should I write him now? Should I ask him about funding situation? Please help me.......
